Lake Tapps park early opening?

Post by 2000subaru » Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:01 am

I heard from some fellas that at the latest Tiger Pac meeting there was going to be a conversation with reps of the park about opening early for fishing. I wanted to go, but was unable. How did things go? I saw on the Western Bass Club site that you were successful last year, just wondering if you got the support you wanted from other clubs. I believe that Larry from WBC and a few others were trying to be there for you.

The parks people told us they'll continue to open the gate at 6 a.m. However, they can't do anything about the 8 p.m. park closing, because that's imposed by the sheriff's department to control drinking and partying in the park after dark.

Is this going to be everday, or weekends only?

Initially this was to be kept ALOT more hush hush...so this way the fisherman could use the lake at the "primetime" of the morning.
So with that being said. Yes s.k....everyday..effective April 1 thru Oct. Also note to everyone that if you live in Pierce County you CAN BUY the season pass for North Tapps and Spanaway Lake launches for $50.00. I think if I remember correct $150. for non-residence of Pierce County. The park district will go by what it says on your Driver's license. So really, go buy a pass!!! I am....! Cheaper than last year by 25 bucks plus you support the park district which really takes care of itself and thank Denny who is helping out the FISHERMEN. Again keep it under your hat...okay?

It's sure been nice of Denny and his superiors to accomodate us with the early opening the last couple of years. It's taken a lot of time and effort to gets this going so let's keep it going by always doing the right thing while we're there. If you see Denny or any of the work staff, say thanx for providing this.
It's nice to know your truck is safe also while you're out fishing, unlike the City of Bonney Lk launch where the cops even warn you about the many break-in's on vehicles in the truck/trailer parking area. Nice, after you've paid $17.00 to use their facilities. The City of Bonney Lake should be ashamed of what they've created here.

Where can I buy this pass? Last year I had the $25 Allen Yorke Bonney Lake Resident launch pass, but after the Bollard of Death Incident (it totaled 2000Subaru's 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon) I think I'll be using the north county launch this season. It's a bargain at twice the price!

I just called the parks department and was told that the pass, if bought at Tapps or at the County Parks office is $50.00 but if bought from Bud at Spanaway it is $75.00 still. Makes alot of sense doesn't it? The pass will be good at both parks like always once the launch at Spanaway is done. We used to always buy it from Bud but this year I guess we'll either wait till they set up the booth at Tapps and hold up traffic while we buy it or go to the County office.

Good info guys, thanks! Last time I was at the county launch the booth was still mothballed in the side gravel lot. I'll wait and buy it there. Bonney lake's car eating launch isn't getting my money this year.

Any news if the toll booth is operational yet? Also, has the 6:00 am hush hush early opener started yet? I'm looking to go out this Sunday and I'd like to get an early start and buy my annual pass. Thanks for any info.

We went to the parks department office and bought ours a couple weeks ago. I don't like to go early and since Bill works swings we are used to sleeping in some anyway so we make really good use of our pass.

Thanks for the info everyone!

I was there a little before 6 today and the gate was open and the booth was closed. On the way out the booth was staffed, but I was running too close to my curfew to stop and buy a pass today. I'll be sure to allow extra time next time I'm out there.
