New to Perch fishing, beginers luck.

Post by JT26 » Tue May 29, 2007 9:56 pm

i went fishing for perch yesterday for the first time, and it was pretty fun. it was off a pier on lake washington. I caught 18, and thought i did well, till someone told me that people get buckets full of the things.

Anyway, what i did was casted a night crawler on about 4 ft of leader with a bobber and let it sit. I only caught 1 in about an hour. So i took off the bobber, cut up the perch because my friend told me it was good bait, and put it on the hook, so with only perch meat and two splitshots, i casted mot far from the pier, slowly reeling in the line and letting it sink every couple of seconds. After that, i caught the other 17 in about 45 minutes. Good day for me, lol.

Also, i heard the Perch start biting later in the year, when warmer, it that pretty much true?
Does anyone know of any other good lakes are for perch? Prefferabally in South King County

Well they will bite all year around, they will just be deeper when the water gets really cold and really hot...So when the temps are warm, they are much shallower, hence better for fishing from docks cause they are closer into shore....
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

Rememeber perch are a small species so a smaller fish dosnt mean its not a big perch. I like to keep them when they get to 9" - 10". But if there is enough of them and I really want perch Ill keep them in the 6" range. Its not very fun cleaning them but eating them taste the same

They dont call them spinyrays for no reason LOL. But Ive had them draw bllod and Iv had the flip out of my hand a land on my foot. When your wearing flip flops and your feet are sun burt , IT HURTS. At potholes resevior its not uncommen to catch between 50-100 spinerays a day, yeah you get pretty beat up after a week long vacation LOL
