Possible Clam Dig

Post by Coastfishin » Wed Apr 23, 2008 1:57 pm

The Final spring clam dig has been set for May 3-7 if Marine Toxin tests come back OK.

I got this from the local newspaper:

The Daily World

A morning razor clam dig at four ocean beaches beginning May 3 has been tentatively scheduled by the Department of Fish & Wildlife.

Dreary weather kept diggers away during the April opener, leaving enough clams in the sand for a May dig, according to Dan Ayres, the department’s coastal shellfish manager.

“With unseasonably cold and snowy weather, fewer diggers than we expected turned out, so the overall catch was less than anticipated,” Ayres said. “We’re pleased to offer folks another chance to get some clams in May and hopefully the weather will cooperate.”

If marine toxin tests show the clams are safe to eat, Twin Harbors and Long Beach will open for morning digs May 3-7, while Copalis and Mocrocks are scheduled to be open May 4-5. No digging will be allowed after noon on any beach. Kalaloch Beach will remain closed to digging.

This likely will be the final recreational razor clam dig before fall, Ayres said.

Tentative dates and low tides:

* Saturday, May 3, 5:27 a.m., -0.3 ft: Twin Harbors and Long Beach.

* Sunday, May 4, 6:16 a.m., -1.2 ft: Twin Harbors, Long Beach, Copalis and Mocrocks.

* Monday, May 5, 7:04 a.m., -1.9 ft: Twin Harbors, Long Beach, Copalis and Mocrocks.

* Tuesday, May 6, 7:51 a.m., -2.3 ft: Twin Harbors and Long Beach only.

* Wednesday, May 7, 8:39 a.m., -2.4 ft: Twin Harbors and Long Beach only.

those morning low tides are brutal, considering I'd have to wake up around 3:00 AM to prep and make the 2 hour drive there to get to the low tide.
