trophy board limits

Post by platinumroof » Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:07 am

I started this thread so we don't clog up the actual trophy board with discussion. I think a lot of you guys wanted minimum limits of 5lbs for smallies and 6lbs for green fish and I think that is a great idea. I also think we should have another sticky for big fish that is less restrictive. I think people who catch any size bass that they are proud of should have a place to share it. I have 2 smallies that I didn't post from a few weeks ago that were 4lb 11oz. They were pretty freaky fat too, I think you guys would have got a kick out of them. And to the guys who put up fish who didn't meet the unofficial limit don't worry about it just hold em closer to the camera next time.:-"

I agree. A 5lb SMB and a 6lb LMB might seperate the big fish from the trophy fish, but I think we can all agree that a 4lb SMB and a 5lb LMB is still a nice fish and deserves some bragging rights. If bass is your fish of choice then I understand where the 5lb and 6lb min. makes a huge diffrence. But if you are a cassual bass fisherman then even a 3lb and 4lb could be considered a "trophy". I just think that where the size limit is set in the "trophy bass section" will only apply to the die hard bass fisherman. But I do understand, this is the bass forum. But remeber this is coming from a casual bass fisherman. But one of these days I will figure out how to post a picture and catch a 4lb smallie, and then I will post the picture in the trophy section weather you guys like it or not lol.

I wouldnt mind a "trophy fish" sticky in all the forums.

We need the limits for the "Trophy" bass section. Smallies over 5lbs and Largemouth over 6. These were voted on, but looks like we need another head count..

I was also thinking it would be cool to have another bass pic post sticky, any size, just to show it off if you like.. We'll see if Mike can do that for us.

Either way, lets start the voting: Restrictions to the TROPHY post say I.

Why does it matter how big the fish are? I think people should be able to put up any fish that is an individual trophy. It won't hurt anything will it?

Well they should be able to put it up in their own thread instead of clogging up a thread for "trophy" fish then right?
Nobody is trying to stop them from putting up catches they are proud of but why put it in a thread where restrictions were already designated?

I support the 5 and 6 pound guidelines. Now if I could only catch a greenfish that is not between the two numbers.....

I was one of the guilty ones who put a post up that did not meet restrictions, which out of respect for the forum, I took down. As I said before, originally, I did not see any size restrictions on trophy bass thread, which was why I posted it there. But now that guidelines are being set, I am totally willing to comply. I just need to get out and catch me a trophy I guess. I also support a thread for people to post fish that they consider a personal achievement. (For example, a child's first fish, or a person's new personal best on a certain species, deformed fish, and other such events.) I don't think it needs to be limited though, to one species. Anywho, just my two cents.

You should have left it up Beerman. It's not like the board is being over-run with pictures. And I agree with the more open board. My buddy almost caught a Muskie that was all of 30lbs. the other day and he caught a 15 inch Kokanie on a lipless crankbait. I thought it was kind of interesting.

Maybe a personal trophy thread with any fish species. More or less a place to throw some fish pics that arn't exactly "Trophies" to other anglers but you'd like to share. Might be some insight to what some lakes are producing overall.
Just an idea.

Isn't the "Reports" section for telling your story and posting a pic(s)? And what's the "Photo Gallery" for? I though that the more info placed on this site the more it cost WL.com in storage cost. Just wondering.

Photo gallery only takes pictures from reports. Signatures are a bigger thing to worry about. If someone has a signature with a picture in it or a ton of text, and has 500 posts for example, well that signature picture/text is included in 500 posts...
Many times I do post reports, but more often not anymore, due to the fact that I prefer to keep my spots secret and I wouldn't post a secret report everytime I go out.
This isn't about sharing stories or reports, it's about sharing pictures for the pleasure of looking at good fish pics...

Mike, if it does end up ruining the site's storage space (I would doubt it) feel free to take that thread down...

The bass trophy board is where you should post your pictures of your big bass, so long as they are 5lb+ for a smallie or 6lb+ for a largemouth

This is the BASS FISHING section.

We are talking about the BASS trophy board.

No muskie no trout...doesn't matter if you are 6 or 60.

Smallies over 5. Largemouth over 6
