Electric Motors on Lake Washington??

Post by dfalcon » Wed May 23, 2007 10:00 pm

Hello,
I've got what is probably a silly question, but hey- I'm new to both fishing and boating...

I just purcahsed a 14' Tracker riveted deep V with a 54# thrust electric motor. I went with the electric becuase there are three electric only lakes within a few miles of home. But I'm also interested in, OCCASIONALLY fishing parts of Lake Washington as well. Can this setup work in that size of water? Obviously I woldn't br boating from Renton to Kirkland, but I would like to fish around/ near Seward park-- maybe Launch from Stan Sayers pits.. Any thoughts?
feasible or not?

Thanks

Very do-able. I fished Lake WA for over a year in my 9 foot plastic boat. I had a 36 lb trolling motor hanging off the front side, and a 3.3 hp gas on the back. I fished from Coulon all the way to the mill, then drove back. If you pick the right days, kinda calm with no high winds, you should be fine. You can float tube on Lake WA if you wanted to. Go for it dude.

Heck on a real nice hot day,I even take out my 7½ foot pontoon boat out there when I don't want to take my boat out there. 14 footer with 54LB thrust trolling motor will work great.

Easy. I wouldnt plan on pulling water skis LOL, but I have a 40lb thrust minn kota and it works fine. It might get tough with some of the rude people that go 30 mph 30 feet from your boat but thats more than enough power to hit lake WA

:d/ Excellent. Just what I needed to hear. I'll probably get a second battery to make for a longer trips.
I'm not sure what 54# thrust translates to on the water-- no experience with these types of motors and not much info on the web, that I could find.

I have about the same set up on my 15 ft Klamath (aluminum). I can troll for bass all day and have 40% battery left. Just depends how long and how fast you troll.

Well the most boat traffic is from Friday thru sunday, so if your looking for calmer days, avoid those ones...Bigger crowds and more boats out there on those days...

Very do-able indeed. Just watch the wind and take an extra battery just in case.

On an easy day yesterday-- perfect sunny afternoon, no wind at all....
I launched from the ramp near Rainier Beach HS and went across to Mercer Island and back. Didn't do any fishing, but it worked out fine.
