t-storms

Post by bpm2000 » Fri Feb 29, 2008 5:22 pm

So I've been waiting all week to get out there tomorrow (sunday is busy for me dammit!) but now the weather forecast is thunderstorms for tomorrow.
Bad weather never kept me from going fishing but t-storms, possible lightning... ehhhh

what do u think? yay or nay? anyone going out tomorrow?

Same dilemna here. Had planned on Sammamish, but not sure what I am going to do now.

Will be up at 5:00 am to take a look at the weather and go from there.
When you think you know it all, its time to quit. Knowledge should be gained on every trip.

Don't go...SW winds sustained 20-25KTS and just nasty. I just came off Lake Washington where it was 60F and blowing hard 35KTS with 4 foot waves to now 49F with hard sideways rain and gusts to 20 on my Davis Vantage Pro 2 Weather Console. As much as I'd like to "get out there again" it's not worth it pounding against the waves and battling temperatures that struggle to make it past 47F. I'd say knicks on tomorrow, but an all clear for Sunday!

NWS Seattle, WA
3:30PM PST 02.29.08

AN UPPER TROF WILL MOVE OVER THE AREA ON SATURDAY FOR CONTINUED
SHOWERS. THE AIR MASS WILL ALSO BE UNSTABLE ENOUGH FOR AN ISOLATED
TSTM OR TWO IN THE AFTERNOON. A DRIER AND MORE STABLE AIR MASS WILL
DEVELOP OVER THE REGION SATURDAY NIGHT AS AN UPPER RIDGE BUILDS OVER
THE PAC NW. THIS RIDGE WILL PREVAIL OVER THE AREA ON SUNDAY

i was just gonna bank it for casting practice/throwing new baits so the wind isnt too much of a concern for me, just dont want to be standing out there like a lightning pole lol.

if youre on the bank id say you're pretty safe. i would recommend against being out on the water during a lightning storm however.

I have fished in windstorms, hot sun, snow, sub freezing temps, rainstorms, and great weather. Any hint of lightning and I get myself outta there as ASAFP.

That being said... if there is no lightning, I've had some of my best days fishing for trout (cutts and bows) in Lake WA off docks/shore when there is a wind stirring up the water good.

Rough water makes for more dissolved oxygen for the cutts and bows in the upper levels of the lake when they tumble down...making for better fishing. I do have to say some of my best days fishing have been in rougher water...with that said...avoid lightening.

Looks like the thunder was just a morning thing. Chance of rain for the rest of the day but nothing to crazy...

No Thunderstorms around the area, check the radar, even the NWS says the chance of strike has gone down considerably:

Report back how you guys did...the water temps need to nudge up in the 50's and right now we're stuck in the mid 40's.

Glad to hear some guys got out today. Weather wasn't too bad, sure the wind was a concern. I will get out tomorrow, not sure where yet.
