Finally got out pike fishing again and hit the river. Started out slow for me watching everybody around me catch fish, but got on a roll and hooked into a real nice 36" 13.4 lb fish. Soon after I got a 7 and a 9 lb. and ended the day with a 5 lber for 4 fish on the day. Hope to get out again here soon to up my total. Puts me at 6 fish on the year which is way behind what I had last year, but with this weird weather this year I haven't been able to fish much.

Well I finally got out on Saturday to get my 2017 Pike Talley going. The Packernut and I fished the main lake for a couple of hours to no avail, so we moved into the chain lakes to try to find some fish. We found some clean water and we found some dirty water. The clean water lake produced a few fish for us. I started the year with 8 pike on the day. This brings my total for the year to, yep, you guessed it. 8.
Spoons worked nest. Water temps reached 50 late in the day. Nothing worthy of photos as the biggest fish was only 26". I'll take an 8 fish day on my first trip out. Gotta sharpen up the skills before our June trip to Last Mountain Lake!!
It's good to finally be on the board.

Well, panfish you certainly got me beat. It probably would help if I went fishing instead of mechanicing on old equipment, working, etc. Hint: fish before the nets, not behind!

Colville Tribe has a Pike bounty for any angler. $10.00 per head, any size fish. Each angler can turn in up to 59 pike while funds last. Stop by the Kettle Falls marina for additional information.

Got in a day of prefishing for my next Pike tourney on the mainchain yesterday, It was in general a pretty slow day although the weather was nice. Got 4 pike between 3 anglers I got the biggest 2 with my largest one at only 5lbs. I didnt take any pixs as none of them were picture worthy. It was probably the slowest trip I've had there. water is still pretty high, but the water clarity was pretty good at between 3 to 5 feet. So I'm not sure why the fish were off this 2 and the 2 I got from my last trip puts me at 10 on the year. Still way behind my last years total for this time of year. On a positive note for the trip, one of the guys got his first pike ever after about 4 trips of trying, so at least he is no longer a virgin.

So this is a little late, but things have been busy for me. I had business trip to Michigan the 3rd week in April so I decided to get out and fish some as I conned pike baron into taking me and my coworker out! I caught 2 pike and 2 bass, and lost another fish. I also hooked a tree while trying to get my line untangled from a power line. Ended up throwing a flotation device to break the branch the lure was on...that did the trick. Nothing big..maybe 24 inches...but that's 2 for the year...

Only a few weeks to last mountain!!!!

Damnit I gotta make up 10 on mark already....geez [blink]

Finally got on the board at the CDA chains. Two small pike and lost two more for a one day tally. Typical post-cold front slow action. Water is about 3 feet higher than summer normal allowing fish to scatter into the adjoining swamps.

Gotta get caught up here before the big trip. I released 3 more pike last Saturday, the 13th bringing me to 15 on the year. I'm on the shelf till we head back to Canada on the 2nd of June.
I've been waiting for two years to get back to Last Mountain, now it's less than two weeks away!!!
I sure hope the action is equal to our last trip. Get ready Lucious and Packernut. You're about to get a 6 day fishing lesson!! [scared]

13 fish??? WRONG!!!! You now have 22 fish to make up. I added 9 more pike yesterday, bringing my total to 24 for the year. I'm predicting I'll catch at least that many on the first full day in Canada. Lucious, do you see those two little red dots in front of you? That's my tail lights as I'm pulling further, and further, and further ahead of you.
Also, that was not an anomolie, it was a freaking 44" long pike that I caught up there on our last trip. Was it skinny? Yes. Was it the ugliest pike have ever had the pleasure of holding for a photo? Yes. But it was the longest fish of the trip. You can't deny that. IN fact, here's a photo of it, just for you.

I was out on CDA Friday and added a few more to my total as well. Got one in the main lake and more up in the chains. That makes 13 on the year. A slow start for me, but fishing has been weird this year and not very many Pike trips so far to put up the numbers. Hey Mark, looks like you stretched that pike to make it look that long. Here is what a real 44" looks like :)

So what I am getting is that you're a liar AJ's Dad. You said you were on the shelf and then you go out and catch 9 more!!!

And that fish is an anomaly....wasn't even 20lbs...which is the technical classification for a trophy pike...by length is should have been a trophy, but it didn't qualify because of weight...therefore an anomaly!!! [flapper] [-X

Maybe next time we should plan a trip in October. Then we'll see fish with some serious GIRTH.
As for what a real 44"er looks like. I'm well aware, and plan to see a few of those in the upcoming trip.
Here's a thought. Let's all raise our hands for each time we've caught a pike over 45" in the lower 48 states, an you better have photos to prove it. None of this "I caught a 45 or 46"er, but it got away right at the boat". Ready?
