looking for eggs

ive been looking for somewhere to get uncured eggs and havent really been able to find anything . tried ordering from a few different sites and either got no reply or told they didnt have any. im looking for somewhere i can get them between seattle and mt vernon preferably and dont really care if its from a tribe member. thanks for any help

Try River Bend Jigs, they can ship you frozen ones, not sure of availability.

yeah that was one of the places I tried they keep pushing back when they think they'll get them in :/

I used to do this years ago but stopped when I realized that I shouldn't be supporting commercial tribal gillnettin. Not against tribal netting for substinence but don't support commercial netting of our salmon of any sort now but if you really want some eggs few years ago I would go down below 1st ave bridge down in seattle after the tribes hauled in their catch and ask for any females they wanted to sell. I would buy two or three and take them home to clean and gut and in return you get salmon eggs. I don't know if they still do that but I would usually pay about $2-$3 per pound and a fish usually costs about 10-15 bucks per fish. That is about the only way I know of getting fresh salmon eggs if none were available to me.

And so how is buying salmon for the eggs under the 1st Ave bridge not commercial? Subsistence is when the they catch the fish and keep them to eat. The guys under the bridge are as commercial as it gets. The only difference is they aren't delivering the fish to a dock or a tender. They're probably taking them back to the res so they can sell them out of the back of their trucks. Absolutely nothing subsistence about it. 100% commercial.

Catch a Silver with a jig under a float with a piece of shrimp or dick nite drift fished and harvest and cure your own. From what I heard quite a few have been caught on Vibrax or Blue Fox spinners as well. Or buy one of the small containers of eggs from the store in the bait dept. With the rivers now open in the area you should be able to catch one then harvest the eggs........

From my experience when I run out of eggs this season.. I bought a pack of caviar chum egg/roe from an Asian market. Then I cured it it just same way I do with the fresh caught eggs. Then I wrap it with a spawn net.. So far I caught 2 jacks silver with it. I am satisfied with the result.

Check with the various fish markets in your area.

Years ago I would call around until I found one ready to clean salmon within the next 24 - 48 hours and ask them to hold me several pounds of skeins.

They had no problem with it whatsoever provided I paid the going rate as set by the Asian buyers.

I can't imagine this is no longer a viable solution.

For the future - make it a point to fish both the Pink and Chum fisheries hard. With even moderate success you should be able to stay in eggs through the various seasons you fish.

Thats why like i said years ago. Don't support them anymore. You should reread the statement

He is asking to buy eggs. Not sure if true and correct if I'm wrong but he might be having some trouble catching one or even the wrong sex so he is looking for an alternative to get some eggs

2-3 fish usually only about 10-15 pounds depending on size of fish

I prefer to use eggs under a float, there's nothing like the float going under and setting the hook. I get really solid hook placement fishing eggs under a float. But if I have none like now all I have is some left overs from last fall, I will have to catch a few with jigs. Some guys do really well twitching jigs.

We all know that but he might enjoy fishing eggs or has more confidence using eggs. Either way the topic was how to get fresh eggs not how to catch one! I enjoy using eggs also but much rather drift dick nites or throw spinners. Lately I've had luck twitching jigs in purple or black

Ive found quite a bit of misplaced/discarded gear and eggs walking around the kent soccer fields (green river) area ! but before that, had success with recured sweet flying fish roe from the Asain markets, and trout/ kokanee eggs from previous seasons.

Im sure you can find fresh fish guts /eggs in a popular area, worth a try? Ive found them 2x in two outings this year...

I have witnessed people buying fish right off the net boats this year also.
