Cascade/Upper Skagit help...Any Reports??

Post by Eglseder » Sun Oct 02, 2016 9:40 am

Hi everybody!

A couple friends and myself are going to the cascade river and upper skagit tuesday and wednesday to try for some coho and whatever else we can catch. I'm up to date on all the current regulations. Just in search of reports, if anybody's been up there fishing since it opened? Never fished the area and still a novice to salmon fishing. Not having any luck so far. Would really like to see my friends catch some fish, since we always seem to get skunked haha (At least we always have fun! That's the point anyways!). If anybody could give us some pointers that could possibly put us on some fish up there, it would be much appreciated! Also, we were thinking about trying to float a section from the mouth of the cascade to somewhere a few miles downstream...is there a place to rent a canoe and a shuttle service up there?? I have a kayak myself, but I think we would have a much better chance at fish if we floated. Again, looking to fish the cascade and/or the upper skagit. I would hire a guide, but my friends are on a tighter budget than myself. Thanks for any input!

Cheers and happy fishing!

-Brian

The cascade has good reports with success drifting eggs or floating them. Fish will trickle in until november. The Skagit is more of a boat show with plugs doing having success. Good luck!!

Thanks! I will be around this December and the first week or two of January if you want to meet up for steelhead again! I plan on getting as much time on the rivers as possible. Might even make a trip out to the peninsula.

I know people do it, but I wouldn't feel comfortable floating the upper Skagit in a canoe.
The cascade is tough when it's low.

A lot of rapids in upper skagit?? I've never been in that area before. I'm not against walking around the bigger ones.

Cascade is low and clear. Even at first light there wasn't much of a bite yesterday. Not very many fresh fish either. Most have colored up already. Float fishing eggs has been the best with a few on twitching jigs if you can keep from foul hooking them.

Not much for rapids. The spooky spots would be the big swirling, boiling pools.

Managed 2 nice hens this morning!! They have some color, but cut up pretty nice. Fish were not biting well. Did catch a little jack on eggs right off the bat, but no other takers on eggs. Resorted to drifting. Caught the two and missed a few others. They were pretty feisty! Fun morning...I may head back up Thursday. Hopefully the river comes up...

Hey fellow fisherman!
Just wondering if anyone went up to the skagit or cascade again?
Any fish? I heard rumors there might have been some decent fishing up there.
I stuck to the Samish this weekend and got to C&R some wild coho which was fun.
Saw the cascade river went way up so I assume it got a large push of fish.
Let me know any info helps!

I was there yesterday. Fresh fish were coming through but didn't seem to be holding. Flossers were getting there fish other wise it was a grind on eggs to get fish. It should be better during the week.
