Post by cumminsbassguy » Sat Nov 07, 2015 2:59 pm

Well its that time of year again for out here. late fall/ winter time. I hear people catching some of the biggest walleye between now and march/ april.. is this true? I have never fished for walleye past the summer time. also going to try and go to moses or potholes for some ice walleye. if we even get ice this year..

This is very true, best time to get a personal best is January thru March/April, depending on the body of water you are fishing. And as far as the ice goes I am actually hoping Potholes stays clear that is a hot lake to fish in the winter time from a boat. Just remember that if you are going out at this time to SLOW down. Using jigs and blade baits covering areas with steep drops away from feeding areas are your best bet.

So I am planning a fishing/hunting trip to Potholes the 14-17th of Jan this year. We'll be staying at Mardon. Any suggestions as to where to fish and what equipment? I note you mention Jigs but also slow trolling blades. Do you troll the jigs as well?

Sure appreciate any thoughts you might havre. This is a family trip with my two sons. Would love to pick up a few fish, Walleyes, Crappy etc. [thumbsup]

Fish Wallula Columbia River from March thru mid May. The fishing has been good with several teeners boated n released. Probably the best gem of info is fishing the shallow bay of Columbia River just outside of Casey's pond. From mid-end of April thru mid May, the shallow waters of this bay yield more walleye than anywhere else period! Live outta state but fished this area for years up till just 2 yrs ago. All the Wallula walleye enter this shallow 10 deg warmer than main river bay fro post spawn feeding.

Plus launching from Casey's pond provides quick boat access to main river buoys and also good to great walleye fishing. I always try the shallow bay first by trolling along the railroad tracks E/W anywheres fro 50-100 yds off bank. When the fish are their it is literally lights out fishing.....plus a quick jump to main river. Wished I still resided in WA as I'd be getting ready for this upcoming fishery. Just exit Casey's pond by going under train bridge......proceed out 100 yds then turn left to fish along train tracks. Since I can't fish it anymore.....turning this nugget over to the masses!
