Winter steel on the Sky?

Post by Teenangler07nwest » Tue Nov 24, 2015 10:31 am

Hi all,
With a fun but inconsistent salmon run this year like closing the rivers because of temperature and lack of coho I managed to catch about 30 salmon in area 7 and the Sky collectively. With the recent flooding the chums have all disappeared and I am forced to look forward to blackmouth and steelhead. Last winter me and dad hit the Sky up at Reiter on the highway side and the upper Wallace without any luck. I know 99% of the people fishing this system use bobbers and jigs with pretty good success. I have a plethora of jigs in all sorts of colors, I am wondering what are the top 3 best colors or combinations for winter steelhead? I know it can depend day to day, conditions, and sometimes they won't bite at all but what do you guys think I'll give me the best shot?
I also have some leftover cured roe would it be worth it to bring roe with me when I go out or would it just be best to stick with what everyone else is doing(bobber and jigs)?
Lastly, I am wondering if the ponds side is better then the highway side? I have also heard of this Cable hole downstream of Reiter is that a good spot if the ponds have high pressure? And for any of you who have had success on the Wallace is it better to fish the lower Wallace or up near the hatchery? And if so where do you park to get to the lower part?
Sorry I have so many stinking questions but I'm just trying to get my first steelhead [unsure]

Not sure which one is the site but I use these jigs in colors nightmare, pink, white&pink, black&red, basically any jig with those colors are great. I don't tip my jigs but I will dab it with krill or shrimp scent only on the head avoiding the feathers. Oils in the scent clump the feathers together and eliminating the action of the jig
