Looking for a verified place to catch flounder

Post by Eugene » Thu Jun 11, 2015 11:15 am

Hi Guys. Couple of last years I used to drive to Mukilteo fishing pier to catch some flounders. But now looks like whole a parking equipped with terminals and they want 2 bucks for 1 hour parking with 4hrs limit. So looks like I should forget about this nice place forever. Can you recommend any similar places with flounders? I already visited Edmonds pier a couple times, but catch nothing but 1 rat fish. Thank you in advance! :fish:

try fishing from shore, i've caught lots of good sized flounder over the years off several beaches around the sound. the best places in my opinion are gravelly bottoms or near a creek or river mouth. i usually either fish a slip float with a worm about a foot off the bottom or use a egg sinker with a 4 ft leader and slowly bounce a good sized piece of worm along the bottom on the retrieve.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

Anywhere that's in the 5-15 feet deep water with a sandy bottom. We would get a bunch north of Brown's bay when fishing shallow. It was something to see a "herd" of them chase behind a jig and rubber worm combo.

Dont know if this will be of any use, but I catch tons in Eldger bay on Camano Island. Any size boat is ok there as it is pretty sheltered from wind and current. and can launch at the state park

Thanks guys for responses! But I do not have a boat and I am do not into shore fishing. Can you recommend any saltwater public fishing piers that have some flounders all around. I am pretty new to this area, so I do not know where sand or where rock bottom. Thank you in advance!

Edmonds pier has NEVER been a great spot to catch flounder. You brought up Mukilteo but if it's pay to park now oy. Um Shilshole bay Dock A - the public fishing dock should have some. I know the dock near the boat launch area has 'em as well.

We caught a bunch of flounder fishing for squid in Bremerton. If you let the jig get too close to the bottom, the flounders would nail it.

Can I ask why you say you are not into shore fishing?

Just asking, because you could spend time fishing the same old docks that TONS of people are dropping the same old bait down to these fish... And have people in your space, and not always great returns on fish.
Or... You could fish from a beach, and have nobody around you, beautiful scenery, and the fish aren't looking at the same baits dropped off the dock each day.
I don't think I would ever go to a public pier, but maybe that's just me.

I have never fished from the short in tacoma, but I have had my boat very close to shore and i always catch tons of flounder. anywhere from commencement bay to pt defiance really. I like to drop anchor in 15-30ft of water and let the kids fish because its a sure thing.
