Very cool Hunter757. I just checked, the spare battery is $20. I highly recommend buying a $15 3 amp cell phone external battery at Fry's. When you aren't filming underwater and you don't need the case on you can run the camera all day off the external battery pack. We started doing that when we filmed on the Clearwater, makes a huge difference, never had to worry about batteries running out. You will need the screw in mount style (clamp, wand, or make your own as noted above), well worth it.

Hope you enjoy the free sponsor gifts as well. [thumbup]

Mike, I am sure the extras will be great. I think it was the spare external battery was 50.00 from them but out of stock. I don't see it on ther web today.hmm. Never been to fry's sounds like a trip is in order. Will look into the extra mounts after I figure out where I want to set it up. What a great deal.

The $50 battery would be what they call the 'power bank'. The owner also said you could buy an external battery elsewhere like Fry's. It is used to recharge the camera battery if you are out in the woods with no generator or house to plug into.

Go to frys for an external battery to run/charge up in the field. Much cheaper.

I use Adobe CS5. The consumer end product is adobe premier pro. Unless you're real hard core, the CS5 is pretty pricey. Premier pro does a nice job

I have a couple question on this will it take pictures as well or only video?
Does it have a regular tri-pod mounting hole in the bottom?
At this price point does the water proof case come with it?
I need a new camera and this might be just the ticket.

I've had mine for about a week now.
It takes pictures (3 separate resolution settings) and has an individual button for that function as well as one for video.
The camera body and the waterproof case both have a standard tripod mounting hole.
Waterproof case comes with the camera and allows full use of all the cameras buttons while it is in the case.

Larry,

What G-man said...

As a starting point for comparison with a GoPro, it matches up with a Hero3+ Silver (sells for $299) except the REEL camera also has a full size LED monitor, which is a $79 add-on for the GoPro. The Hero4 Silver has a small LED screen (2/3rds the size of the REEL, it runs $399.

Our package deal that we have with REEL has 4 mounts (including a very nice extendable wand mount), an 8gb card, a package of antifog strips, and a $30 gift pack of fishing gear from WL.com sponsors.

That's $106 of extra gear, AND use the code LAKE50 at checkout to take off another $50. And a free shipping option. This company is in your neck of the woods, Coure d Alene. Good guys. They are bigger in the outdoor sports scene snowboarding and dirt biking. We're their first pro staff for fishing related. As such we've done some pretty harsh things to the cameras and they are holding up well. (getting bit by a 6 foot sturgeon isn't a recommended use, LOL). I'm comfortable endorsing the camera as a superior option to a GoPro. The ease of use is way ahead of a GoPro. I know that's what you see everyone running around with, I like to finding an alternative, better product at a lower price. [thumbup]

Just a quick note. You need to check that the lens is in focus before use. I highly recommend hooking the camera up to a large screen device, like your TV, to make sure the focus is correct as the small screen on the unit doesn't quite cut it for this function. Once I had the lens focused, I placed small slivers of duct tape on the bezel of the lens to match up with the white and red marks on the camera body. These marks are for use when you rotate the lens 95 degrees for underwater filming. With the lens marked in this manner, you can easily return it to proper focus for use out of the water.

good recommendation. Once done you shouldn't have to do it again, just alternate between one or the other. Not turning the lens to underwater angle will still give you some nice shots, and under deeper water, lower light conditions it is less critical.

I sent it back and then called several times, got to talk to them twice, they said they would get right back to me, have no got a call since. Anyone know how to get in touch with them. Leaving for Hawaii 2-4-15 and sure like to take it with me. Thank. [confused]

Are the GoPro mounts and the reel camera mounts interchangeable?

I'd love to pick up one of these but I would have to sell the GoPro 1st.

that reminds me, I need to sell my old go pro. Drove me nuts over the weekend trying to deal with the Go Pro's archaic tiny LCD and symbols after using my REEL cameras the past year.
