RULES PROPOSED FOR THE 2015 - 2016 fishery

Post by c_saeteurn » Mon Mar 02, 2015 6:00 pm

Proposed rules include
Puyallup river
Skokomish river
Nisqually River
New proposed rule: leader length may not be more than 48 inches

I would rather have it be 60 inches(5feet)

Green/duwamish
proposed rule change 4 adult pinks.

Previous rules 6 salmon minimum size 12 inches. a combination of 3 adult coho/ chum may be retained. release chinook.

I would rather see them keep the 6 pink limit and increase the bag limit of coho to 4.
6 salmon daily limit minimum size 12 inches. A combination of 4 adult coho/4 adult chum/4 adult pinks plus 2 additional pinks. Release Adult chinook.

Above rule would allow the retention of jack chinooks
They should increase the limits of coho due to an increased number of coho on the green/duwamish. Soos creek hatchery has a huge surplus this year. closing the off the holding ponds early.

I have attempted to determine what the proposed regulation would consider a "leader". I contacted various people at WDFW, none of them were willing to say what their proposed definition would be. Of course we sometimes see a leader defined as that line which is attatched to the main line. Also we see it as the length of line from the first sinker to the first hook. Wonder if it will preclude fly fishing?

One of the biologists I talked to said the proposed regulation was NOT about snagging. Wonder what its about?

They need to take some of these meat fisheries and acknowledge that that's what they are. Fishing the Puyallup and foul hooked a pink? Fine goes against your daily limit but go ahead and keep it. Hurry up and get your limit and go home.

might just as well. Pink Poaching goes on a lot on the Sky system so I don't know that it would change anything because they wouldnt stop at the limit..

My comments regarding pinks was, why impose a limit at all? Two decades ago, they were non-existent in most rivers in the Puget Sound. All their offspring do is reduce the available food for more desirable salmon and trout that they share a river system with. Thin them out and give the remaining naturally spawning salmon and trout a fighting chance.

From what I've seen the WDFW could care less about the fish. They'd rather sit up along the road and write tickets to people coming back to their cars. If they were worried about illegal activities doing harm to the resource they'd be making a presence on the river before people are breaking the law.

Guess it's easier to sit on the road and collect the low hanging fruit.

Bobber only on the skok plus lower river closed
Anglers on the Skokomish River should be aware of a new “bobber only” section of the river, from the Highway 106 Bridge to Highway 101. Upstream of Highway 106 will be open in late July for “bobber only” fishing. Additionally, the free-flowing freshwaters near the mouth of the river (below the Tacoma Powerlines) will be closed this year.

I credit dick nite spoons they originally had it on their fb post page but they linked to wash fish an game ... I wonder what's stopping people from just putting a bobber on with out a stop an just drifting ... Or what is the 48" leader is it to the swivel or is it to weight cause a person could just place a swivel at 48 inches an hike their weight up the line ... And is the bobber just for sporties or does that rule fall on both parties fishing the skok
