Abandoned Boat

Post by ptfletcher » Sun Aug 31, 2014 12:41 pm

It seems that someone has abandoned this boat in my neighborhood. Normally, abandoned vehicles and trailers are left next to the river. Wasn't sure at first, since it has current registration. It is a Sportsman, about 16' - 18'. It has a straight 6 with an outdrive. Engine looks to be toast.
I'm not sure if this boat is worth anything, or how to go about claiming if it is abandoned.
Perhaps one of our members is interested.

The 2015 decal has a number on it. The DMV can trace it and find the owner that way.

Thanks, Tom. I'll try to contact them Tuesday, if I'm not out fishing!

Could've been stolen and left there after they took what they wanted? Since it's registered currently, I would think it wasn't abandoned. I know that stolen boats get stripped and left in odd places.

Kind of wonder if it's stolen why so much stuff is left on it. The fish finder and other things seem to still be there but the license # is gone. Maybe they just needed the sparkplugs? [laugh] Is there a plate on the trailer? DMV should be able to trace that too. BTW that's a 4 Cyl engine.

If it is suspected as being abandoned or stolen, why haven't the police been called?

The boat is gone. I assume it has been towed.
