I'm confused about the Sky fishing
Pardon my ignorance, but I've only fished for salmon starting last year. I read in the regs that Chinook opens June 1st on the Sky from lewis street to Wallace River. All the reports I'm seeing are people catching steelhead. Is the Chinook run not very good? Or are people just targeting steelhead instead? I'm going out there early tomorrow (Saturday) and was hoping to catch my first Chinook. I wouldn't mind my first steelhead either. I just would like to know what to expect from the river. Not that I expect to catch fish, of course.
Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
They're running at the same time. The majority of the Steelhead that are running are headed farther upriver to the Reiter hatchery. Fish down below the Wallace for Chinook and if you catch a hatchery Steel while you're at it, then all the better. Good luck and please post a report on your experience.

Thanks 'Rod, that's what I wanted to know. I'll be sure to post a report.
Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
the chinook run has started out a little slow, but fishing below the wallace will give you a chance at both species!
Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
hey JuLeeKea, i'm hoping to head out there tomorrow morning as well. was thinking cracker bar which is just downstream from the mouth of the wallace. PM me if you want to meet up.
Btw, seasoned fisher or not, you should always expect to catch fish! haha!

Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
The Sky Chinook run has started slow. But if you want a chance to bonk Steel and Nook go just downstream on Wallace.

Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
Thanks for the info everyone! What is the best technique for chinook/steelhead? I've read about jigs under a bobber, dick nights, Blue Fox spinners, sand shrimp under a bobber, eggs under a bobber... The list goes on. I was thinking of trying some coho and humpy eggs from last season under the bobber. But I'll also be bringing a box with a few other as well. I don't want to over pack with useless items if they just wont work.
Thanks again for the info.

Re: I'm confused about the Sky fishing
BIG globs of eggs for kings, anything pink for steelhead.
