Beautiful chrome hatchery fish...probably 9-10 lbs....and I had to release it. Was running the backwards pink worm with the hook trailing. Felt the tap, tap, tap, set the hook and had a hell of a fight. Got her in the net and wouldn't you know it, the hook got her near the pectoral fin.

I think I'm cursed as far as steelhead go. [crying]
Dang! thats unfortunate, the fish must have bitten the other end of the worm, and the hook caught here there when you set the hook. At least you got to fight one!
Yep that's what I figured had happened as well. I can attest to your backwards pink worm though! I'll let you guys get back to duking it out...I've got my popcorn ready. [tongue]

Suprisingly enough i havent had that happen yet. Must have just been an agressive one that bit the wrong end hard and slid that hook up to the fin when it swam off with it. Other than that, did you like how it fished? Tangles less and doesnt rip off as easy right?

I tangled plenty, but it's to be expected on the river I was fishing. Pulled myself out of many tangles and the worm never came off. When I did lose gear, it was usually snapped at the split shot higher on the line.

Since you're keeping it "secret" I assume it's one of the lesser known rivers. It doesn't look white water enough to be the Calawah, so I'm going to guess clearwater. I'm gonna find out where it is eventually. If people post an anonymous picture, I take it as a challenge to find out where it is.
People like me post anonymous pictures so the entire internet doesnt read it and go flooding to the river to fish it after seeing a photo of a 20 pound steelhead. Wasnt your goal of not fishing the coast to take the pressure off the wild fish? Now how would revealing the river help that cause? Seems kinda hypocritical to me. But Your right, im not keeping any secrets, Its either the Humptulips. Upper Quinault. Queets. Clearwater. Hoh. Bogachiel. Calawah. Or Sol Duc. Have fun guessing!
No, my reason for not fishing the coast is because I think it is wrong to profit off a diminishing resource. I think it is irresponsible for us guides to sit back and do nothing while they dwindle away to nothing.

It bugs me when people post anonymous pictures is all.
That must be your reason for never posting pics?? :^o

Advertisement sure. That just seems like a smart business move. I think most sport fisherman enjoy seeing great pics of an awesome fish!

I don't understand how posting "where" will increase success? But I do understand posting "how to" will.[/quote]

Well then, you haven't ever been low holed. . "Where" is just as much a factor as "how to".

I think unnecassary drama like this is contributing to fewer and fewer pics of fish online. Sometimes you post a cool pic because it is a cool pic. This is the thanks you get even on walakes which is a better site than most.

Lots and lots of people read these forums. Posting locations on fragile fisheries like wild steelhead will make things tougher for you me and everyone else in the long run because of increased crowds. Some fisheries, pinks, coho, ect... Can handle it. Wild coastal steelhead cant. Im happy to share any info, except the exact location i am fishing. Nobody including the fish benefits from that. Id be happy to share anything else. And by the way I pay for advertising here.

With thay said. Nice big bucks Bonker. Saw em on facebook also. Glad to see something started happening down there :)

Thanks guys, yeah it was alright fishing but last weekend was the time to go though lots of chrome fish with the high water, now they are just boots that have been recycled 1-2 times.
My opinion is that nates should be kept a secret because it is sickening to see the creel reports on WDFW say that 26 have been kept on the bogy, 45 on the sol duc and another 15 on the Hoh. this is just sad and I know that most of the fish kept are people chasing reports and want something to kill. I say let them do the hard work if they are just gonna kill off the populations, I am not saying stop fishing for them since it can be fun, but use like barbless hooks and artificial bait to avoid gill shots then also use heavy line so that you can bring them in faster. I don't fish for nates that much because I like to keep fish and I know of many rivers that will have hatchery fish in them from October all the way to April 30th but occasionally I like to fish the bogy or satsop for nates just to be apart of the tradition.
Plus this thread is called "winter steelhead 2013/2014" not "share every little piece of info with your report of brats and nates 2013/2014" lol

Nice fish! [thumbup] I wish I could post some pics haha but I'm done with Steelhead till June.
As for the nates...I agree that it should be kept secret, we don't need any more pressure on those rivers than there already is.

Couldn't have said it better myself brat.

On a side note, I think someone should put on a tutorial on how to use the quote feature. Quite a mess back there.

Only allows you to quote 3 , Not sure how to delete previous quotes without doing what happened there, and then it was a chain reaction. Lol, My fault.

Didn't say the pictures aren't enjoyable i congratulated him on the fish but just throwin fish porn aint gonna teach anybody anything besides to purchase a guided trip.
