First Steel!

Post by Bay wolf » Wed Mar 12, 2014 9:58 am

Finally landed my first ever Steelhead! Hooked into few (one big fish that broke my hook), but finally landed this little chrome cookie cutter! Thanks to everyone who took the time to help school me on steelie fishing and river fishing in general.
Special shout out to Schu7498, Natetreat, spoon2 and Rubin Ford! And of course to the great Youtube videos and information from Washingtonlakes.com!

Way to go! And a bright one too! Did you land it on your new rod?

Dang, wish I would of know it was you, could of introduced myself and shook hands. Ya, that guy hooked like what, six fish?

It was funny, he said he never saw a hook break before, so I showed him. He said the hooks I was using was too small. Then he said " Lost the fish of a lifetime! " Boy! That makes ya feel good! #-o

Yeah that area you guys were drifting was doing pretty well. He hooked quite a few. The season is still young for the chuck, fish are finally showing up in numbers and their bitey. You may have a chance at the trophy again. Might want to pick some 1/0 hooks! :)

Congratulations, you have worked hard for it. I know that spot!
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

From what dadamunky told me, the guys catching that day were all drifting...either yarn balls or cork, yarn, etc.

Yup. I was drift fishing a pink and red yarnie. 3ft leader with a little bit of sand shrimp smelly.

Fished jig and float first few hours in the morning but didnt get any bobber down.

Just a note. With all the people drifting stuff through these upper holes now, and losing tons of gear and lines, it's getting pretty snaggy in there now. Must be some huge balls of line and gear stuck on every nook and cranny under there.

Thanks everyone for the congrats and comments. I will be down again trying out some different tactics. Usually have my Bay Wolf hat on, so shout out and say hello. I really like meeting new friends on the river.

Good luck!
