Lamiglass vs Fetha Styx

This Friday I'm wanting to pick up a new rod, either Lamiglass or fetha Styx. To anyone who uses either of these rods give me the pros and cons. Right now I have a fennewick hmx 9ft. But I don't think it's gonna hold up for springers. Good for coho, haven't caught anything else on it.

I own a Lamiglas X11 and a Fetha Styx Chrome.

I prefer the Fetha Styx. But I picked mine up on an internet deal for half price, or else I probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger. The Lamiglas is a bit too bendy for my liking. The Fetha Styx is just as sensitive, but I get a better hook set with it. I always feel like the Lamiglas is a wet noodle when I'm setting the hook. Other than that, I do like my Lami, but if I had to pick between the two, it would be the Fetha Styx.

My Chrome is 8'6" in 8-17 lb rating. That will hold up for Springers.

Guys, choosing a rod by name only is like choosing a bride from an old catalogue. What determines a good rod is length, action, backbone, sensitivity, and a half dozen other things, all "best" for different conditions and different techniques.

My "Springer" rod is an no name (Kunan) made in the late mid 80's as a Bass Flipping rod. LOL. It has the characteristics I want and it cost me less then $50 bucks back in the day.

Yes, I have several of the Lamiglass, St. Croix, Diawa, etc., and love them all, for different conditions. I just wish there was an industry standard so we could say that two 7', medium heavy, progressive actions rods were the same...... but they ARE NOT.

for under 200 id go for a st croix avid series, at sportco they have alot of them, and they feel amazing to me, i have my eye on a 9ft med heavy and its very light but feels like it could handle big chums and springers, and it uses their SCIII graphite which i know from experience is great.

Don't know where your located Danny , I've seen you on the skookumchuck I believe so if your down there you might want to check out the lami outlet in kalama.. Yeah it's little out of the way but they have knocked off prices smokin good deals on alot of decent rods ( here an there kinda deal not alot of any specific rod ) I would highly recommend it. I've picked up a few certified pro's down there for I believe less than 100.00 and love them , they have all different sized rods that you can play around with. Goodluck bro.

Another big thing for me when I was in the market for a new rod was the warranty. If it didn't have a good warranty I wasn't interested. With my lami I can snap the thing in half in my truck door and pay something like 100 bucks and get a brand new one no questions asked. I know loomis has one even better but I couldn't do 350-400 bucks.

Got both a Lamiglass cert pro and a fetha styx chrome.. The lami is a 10ft medium and is still a noodle rod but sets the hook well.. My Fetha does my dirty work and more of reliable rod 9'6 and i use it both for float and drift fishing but the lami is by far a better float road!

I'm from Everett so that's a bit of a run for me. Since we have the cabelas in marysville I was gonna go there. The guys that have fetha Styx love them, the guys that have lami love them. I want a rod that is 9'6 to 10ft, has enough backbone to handle steelies, springers, coho, summer kings and chum but doesn't look like a bay pole lol. I want a rod that is sensitive enough that I can feel the difference between bouncing the bottom and a bite while drifting.

i second this choice. i have 5 lami's and a few st. croix which I prefer over them. one st. croix is even a meatline, don't know who made it into that though.

I don't like fetha styxs at all. The only decent rods are the homewater rods, and they're the same price as a loomis, with standard graphite. As for what rod you should fish, it depends on what you're using it for. So much of a deal is made about what tackle to use, and what rod you should use. If you're not going to buy the best, I wouldn't even go to those companies. The Temple Fork gear rods are better than the cheap name brand rods, and they can compete against the $400 super fancy rods.

Before you bite the bullet and buy your rod you might go check out Gregs custom rod in lake stevens. He as a nice selection of rods and can order in most anything you want and I feel a better price than what you will spend at cabelas. Dont get me wrong I like cabelas but I like to save money and support local business as well.

I was looking at temple fork and saw they only charge $130 for their salmon/steelhead rods. Was looking at this rod in particular TFG STS 962-2 9'6". But can't find a photo of it. I also PMed mike about the rods he might have for sale.

All of those characteristics you listed are exactly what I get from my Fetha Styx Chrome. By far my favorite rod.
