Motor handle problem

Post by Jhuynh2 » Wed Nov 06, 2013 10:00 pm

Got a Mercury 2009 Jet 115 motor, the front of the handle you can lower or raise your motor. I can only raise it and the button to lower the motor doesn't work. Is it a wiring issue. Thank goodness for a back up on the side of the motor I can raise it and lower it. any suggestions??

Sounds like a bad switch. Can you get to the wiring and jump the wires and make it go down? If it works by jumping it replace the switch.

If you can raise and lower using the trim button on the side of the motor, you probably have a chafed wire or bad switch. Try Jerry H's suggestion by disconnecting the wires at the tiller handle trim switch. If you can only raise the motor, but not lower it, then you've got a wiring problem between the tiller and the down relay, assuming you can raise AND lower normally using the trim button on the lower cowling.
