Travis-

Check out the article by Bob Johansen on "Saltwater Steel". Has some rather good information with regards to baits, tackle, etc., etc. The article pertains to a specific area...but I am sure the same would apply elsewhere.

If anyone is wondering, The fish was a Hatchery! It barely had any of its back fin left after being clipped. Put up an awesome fight and I will have another to show soon.

p.s - Watch isn't Bloodproof!

Im not trying to rip on you the1fishingpro, but it looks like you got the stock treble still on that spinner. Many rivers require single and some barbless, and either way, I'd suggest you use a single hook when fishing for steelhead. You get a better hookset and you also decrease the mortality rate if you do practice catch and release.

Nice fish though buddy, thats a good picture you got there...

Sam,

Dont worry about the Treble/Barbless policy for where I fish. I have already looked at the Regs and they are legal. Plus I catch steelhead for food unless there natives, then I practice C&R. I have never heard of a Steelhead dieing from being hooked in the mouth.

Thx guys for the pat on the back, I promise there is more to come! you can count on that! I actually hooked 1 today, but It Snapped me off.

Did you submit a river report?

Treble hooks=Only have to use single hooks if the non-buoyant lure restriction is on that part of the river. On the Carbon it is.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

I couldnt find Lewis River or any where I fish on the River Reports, besides being in Cowlitz County. And thats not where I fished, so im not gonna post that I caught it in Cowlitz County when I didnt. If the area I fished was on the WL.com Reports I would post a Report, but it is not added into the river section.

I'd still use those single Siwash hooks they give you...You get a much better hookset, and they will stay in the mouth much better when properly set, and if there are any natives running around, you will be able to release them much easier.

It's pretty easy to rip up a fishes mouth and kill it with a treble stuck in its mouth...

In my opinion, I believe your right. That if I use a single hook it will stay in the fishes mouth longer than a treble. Steelhead are very hard to catch sometimes though, So I rather take my chances using a tremble just to make sure the fish doesnt miss my single. Plus I used a single hook in Alaska this year for Sockeye, It had a hard time staying in the fishes mouth, always wanted to fall out. So in a way I think trebles are the hooks for me. Fish safety isnt a main priority for me. I have never hooked into a native yet, but if I do... I will make sure I go easy on it, so that I dont hurt the fish.
