Ice Reports 2012-2013

Post by aaron42ash » Sat Nov 10, 2012 6:17 pm

It's time again...well almost. So, it's time to restart the thread. Please report ice thickness/ strength and if you wet a line or not. Stay safe and good luck.

I've been watching the forecasts and tracking the days until the ice is ready. Haven't been out to any of my ice fishing spots. My guess? After Christmas. Haven't had any serious cold snaps and don't foresee any in the near future.

Sunday the 9th we went to check out Eloika while duck hunting. Was completely frozen with about 1/4" of ice or better. Snow never helps, but it looks promising for a Christmas ice fishing trip (Low temps in the 20's for the next 10 days [thumbsup] )

Dang. That's surprising.

I'll be ready to head out to Eloika, but I would prefer the ice to be a few inches thick.

Went for a drive yesterday and took a look at Silver lake. No ice yet even in the shallows. Plenty of wind though. I expect to see the shallows freeze up this weekend.

I made a call to Jerry's Landing at Elioka this morning and he said the ice is there, but not accessible or safe enough to fish.

STUPID snow [angry]

has anyone stopped by the public launch at Eloika? There have been a few times that the lake had 2x as much ice on the south end. We might try to stop by and check it out after hunting next weekend.

I haven't ventured to Eloika yet. I would be interested to know how the ice is, but I'm a bit discouraged that it will be thick enough by Christmas. I would imagine someone will get out there by next week, but... well, it won't be me. Maybe the week after next since I see a nice cool down coming.

Checked out Fish Lake by Leavenworth. Open water still on the middle but it does have ice on the edges but definately not safe obviously. Lot of snow up there and because of that a lot of trees are falling down. I unfortunately had to witness the tree that fell onto the suburban and killed two people one car in front of me on highway 2 :(

Idahoguy... I truly am sorry to hear that. I haven't had that kind of experience yet where I've seen a terrible accident unfold. Really sad.

I use that link to save some gas.

Anyone up there by Bonaparte? Higher elevation, earlier ice.

Definitely not something you want to ever see. To my understanding PUD and the forest service is doing quite a bit of work clearing trees in the area especially on chiwawa loop road so hopefully nothing like that happens again. The roads however were all plowed and taken care of. Never once had to use 4wd and ripped around a bit with no problem.

Newman Lake, Spokane County. On Christmas, the lake was starting to slush up around some of the edges. I was trying to test some lures at the launch and I could not make a good cast. Still, no way I would call it close to ice fishing ready.
