Yep! Thanksgiving is always when my family would start steelheading. The fish are big this year, and good numbers, gonna be fun!

wait what side of the river is that, cause if that is the opposite side of the hatchery then you walked right by me. nice fish by the, some beutiful fish being caught there and big too.
Have you ever thought that the big fish were last years returning fish that by pasted the hatchery, spawned and reurned to the ocean to get bigger and are returning to spawn again? My dad kinda threw that and makes sense too.

The percentage of steelhead that actually spawn and make it back is too small for the amount of huge 3 salts are around this year. Must be a combination of things, but for whatever reason, theres some pigs around!

cause there have been a good amount being hooked above the hatchery too and I do not think the fish will go up to the bridge then back down and for putting out over 210000 smolts and only 300 back to the hatchery and 700 caught seems a little odd, but like you said who cares, there are hawgs to be caught haha, I heard that you limited in like 10 minutes toda, bobber dogging eggs in the raspberry hole?

yeah we rolled into the htahcery parking saw like 30 cars and headed over to the other side and saw like 3 fish caught which is not bad considering it is above the hatchery but slow, got mine using a orange corky, old school drift fishing haha. I saw people cross jordan then look downstream for a spot then turn around haha.
Were the fish stacked where you guys were fishing on saturday, I saw one on the bank and a guy fighting one when I walked by.

That was my buddy fighting one. No not stacked, but enough to make me not want to go down and squeeze in with 50 people down lower

haha yeah I hear you, went all the way to the log jam and back only to find a few spots that were really crappy to fish, think I am just going to fish the other side this year, have you tried it below the hatchery on the other side where the river starts to fork?

When I fish anywhere I make sure Freak is not around. All the fish hang with him and nobody gets to catch but him. Way to go Danny. Beautiful fish. Good way to start off the winter run.

Only 6 have made it to the hatchery and 3 of those where more then 2 weeks ago. There have not been any reel numbers of steelhead in the cascade yet. Just been a few here and there......and then Danny catches those ones.lol
Usually good numbers of steelhead by Thanksgiving...just a bit late this year. Thats ok, with the size they are this year it will be worth it. [thumbup]

I think the numbers are there but they are either being caught or going past the hatchery with the higher water that we had.

slowest day in a few days today, it was COLD like in the mid 20's this morning, i think the fish are there and just trying to adjust to the cold, water temp wasnt even over 40 degrees. COLD! I hooked 2 and landed a 8 lb hen, and my buddy lost a 12+ lber, saw one other hooked and thats it, nice to be there on a weekday for sure tho!

Hey Goodtimes, how was the lower? I know that one guy lost 2 early early maybe even before you got down there. Last week was decent a few more hooked but your right, no huge numbers yet.

Caught number 25 for the winter today! 1/8 to my goal!

the 2 he hooked we all thought was the same fish as it came out of the water both times and it looked like the same fish..also hit in the same spot all in a matter of about 2 minutes. he lost them both. I had bobber down 4 times all in about a 5 min period and nothing else all day!!! All 4 where right when it hit the water and was gone before I could get in the slack. Only saw or heard of 2 caught all day...yours(i didn't see but heard about it) and the guy fly fishing. Don't know why but he choose to clean his fish in the middle of the parking lot. then saw him walking with the fish in one hand and the parts in the other heading back down to the water...leaving his car open and rods just sitting on top????

yeah the fish are really lethargic this year, seemed like when the sun started to shine the water must have heated a degree or 2 because there were 3 fish caught in 10 minutes where I was on sunday, what do you guys use for the lazy metal heads, bigger offerings as well as slowing it down?
Yeah FF I did have my orange loomis hat, and 3 rods just minus 1 steelhead haha, gotta do better, fishing can be confusing there but I learned that you have to keep casting cause you never know when the bite will turn on.
