Ahahahaha Yeah i'll be sure to let you know. It could go either way right now, but i'm hoping its gonna be good. I'm gonna scout around next week and decide on where i'm gonna be fishing steelhead most of the year on the river, i'll show you a few of those spots if you decide to fish the river. Hmm the skook...I'm really thinking of going out there in april..I don't know though, depends on how the sol duc is doing by that time.... So decided not to fish the dungy for salmon this year though?

no, maybe next weekend though but doubt it, I have not had very good luck on that river before. If you want keepers go to the chuck in march and april quality is not there in april though but there is a lot of fish.

I think the run will be over by next weekend but maybe not. Really? Hm, every other year is kind of slow on the dungy, maybe you fished it on a slow year. This year has been one of those years and i've still managed to land 29 coho on the dungy, but then again i've fished the river since i was 6. I also probably wouldn't fish it if i didn't live so close to the river. Guess i'll go to the skook in march then.

I'll try to make a trip out hopefully. Though it's kinda far and my grandpa doesn't like driving too far out of town. It's really looking good for steelhead, heard of a another big one caught. I'm gonna start just trying for steelhead sometime this week down lower. If i do any good i'll tell you.

I was not. My grandpa hates rain, and didn't want to go. Plus, with it just starting to rain the fresh fish need a day to move up. Where did you fish at bonker?

Oh, the spot by the hatchery parking lot? Really? I bet i know the guy you saw out there. Also i always wear the black bullet for my valentine hat thats in the pictures i post. I think the person who owned the property a few years ago died or gave it to a family member or something and who ever owns it now put up the signs this year. I just walk across the river way up and walk on the otherside of the river and fish or walk the trail below the private property and walk the river bank. Mostly i only fish the spot near the hatchery though.

yeah this guy who caught the other nice fish was really tall though and wore that hat, he crossed the river when it was rising so hopefully he got back safely though.
There is not much float fishing water there but the places that is good is really good like that stretch below where the creek drops in looks perfect but hard to fish it from the road side. Also this kid that lives next to the hatchery kept asking question then I ask him if he got any steelhead he said one that they kept but he was not sure if it was a wild or hatchery ](*,) I think I saw one in the creek too up by the pond.

Tall, kinda big and a blackish blue hat? That might be james...He uses a double hook rig with a single black corkie? he always catches fish so it probably was him. He lives by the hatchery creek. I'm kinda short(5'9") and i'm 15...Wouldn't be hard to notice the big blue spider and white lettering on my hat. Yeah, to fish that spot where the hatchery creek drops in you gotta fish from the other side. I really like the spot by the hatchery, but the way i fish there now(I stopped using the pink corkie/yarn) is a 18 inch leader, 1/0 hook a decent amount of lead, a red bead, red yarn and some eggs. Works great if you swing under all the big rocks on the other side of the river. Just gotta hit the slow water and slowly drift to the fast water. That kid, did he have hip boots on, short hair and an ugly stick?

yeah that must be james, and that kid had hip boots with a trolling?halibut rod like an ugly stick yeah.
I got my fish on a bead, #2 hook, 3ft leader just reeling in.
My buddy did good last sunday where that really steep bank is on fish hatchery rd but before the hatchery itself and you have to walk down a really steep and slippery trail.
Do the steelhead stack up where the creek enters cause it seems like it would be hard for them to go up it during low water or in the day time, also that place must be a slay fest when the silvers are stacked in there waiting to go up.

Yeah, he flosses but hes damn good at it haha. Yeah that's the kid, i see him out there alot. I'm not sure if i know where that is...I do well on steelhead, in the lower mostly or the upper part of the hatchery. The fish have two ways to go, either up the creek, or up river to the intake pipe. I noticed that the steelhead move up towards the intake and die off before they get all the way up. Early in the season, thats a pretty good place for coho, but it's best to fish from the otherside and cast at that bend in the river at the middle of the hole. Later in the season around november it's better to fish the hole near the hatchery parking lot in my opinion.

that spot you have to pass if you are going to the hatchery, there are pull offs next to a really steep hile that you can see the river, well there is a traill that you can take but it is really steep too but manageable of course and some good holes down there I guess.
Where is the intake thing at, is that the thing across from hurd creek above the hatchery?

Oh okay i know where that is. I rarely fish there. The intake is past that, but its fenced off now. The guy who owns the property fenced the road off....I also got told that i couldn't fish there cause i was standing on his property when i was standing in the middle of the river in 3ft of water. Thats where all the fish hold up, but "apparently" people can't even stand in the water by his property. Haha

hahaha, yeah this one spot I normally fish below the hatchery stretch the first bend where there is a small gravel bar witha yellowish house behind it, that spot always has coho in but I did not risk going down there becuase of all the no trespassing signs but I should have just waded down to it though, I have seen sand shrimp with orange cheater work well in there during later in the season there.

yeah it was about this time of the year and they had one nice fat chrome buck on the beach and lost 2 others using sand shrimp with like a #10 or 8 cheater and 3-4ft leader.
But that hole and one hole at the dike that was like 10+ft deep with logs and rutballs at the head of the pool are like the only holes i have had any luck at along with todays hatchery hole.

Hm, might try that sometime. .....Why did you have to remind me that the log jam hole by the dike is gone. I miss that hole!
