Can someone clarify this for me. Your not allowed to use jigs in a river that has this rule in effect?

Build a man a fire and he's warm for the night. Light a man on fire and he's warm the rest of his life!

From what I understand the lead is part of the lure, so as long as the distance between the point of the hook and the shank is 3/4" or less and no additional weight is attached below or within 12" above the jig, should be ok. However, if you do snag a fish with a jig, it still has to be released. I've caught four Coho this year (yeah, I know not that many) by twitching jigs and all have been hooked inside the mouth. Have yet to foul hook one.
If you really want the straight answer call WDFW....of course you may not get a consistent answer there either.
FWIW.

Thanks for the quick answers guys. I ask this question because i read fishingboy's report about the wallace and he stated that you can not use jigs there. I don't twitch the jig i use it in combination with a float and i'll tell you the truth, i've been hittin coho on it. After i read his report it just had me confused and a bit worried cause i have been using a jig and float on the wallace recently.

I wondered the same thing when I read the report but he is mistaken. The weight is part of the lure. " hooks...much be attached to or below the lure or bait." The lead is part of the lure. If one is looking at a jig being illegal then a weighted spinner couldn't be used either.
This 3/4" inch point from shank rule keeps the hooks on the smaller side also.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

you can use a weight less than 12 inches from the hook if it is under a bobber though but the jig is considered a lure not a weight so you may use them.

The above statement is incorrect. The anti snagging rule says nothing about a bobber being an exception that allows you to place a weight less than 12 inches from a hook.

Jig under a bobber = legal

Bait or jig under a bobber, with a weight (such as a split shot or inline weight) less than 12 inches above or an egg sinker sitting right on top of the baited hook = illegal

Whether or not a warden will enforce (or understand) the rule is a different story

Yeah, gotta agree with that. By just clipping a float/bobber to your line does not equal a "buoyant lure".

i think if your using a float set up a "experinced" game warden wouldnt suspect your snagging fish... but idk why you would wanna put a wieght any closer then 12" on a float set up, might mess with that sexy swinging under float action :)
