Possible New State Record
A friend of mine posted on Facebook today that he caught a record breaking Pikeminnow this morning. 10lbs, 27"!!
He got the answering machine when he called to get it certified so he has it in ice water waiting for tomorrow morning.
Congrats David!

He caught it on Clear Lake in Spokane County.

I went to Sammamish Wed and Thr. Tried to feed the eagles, but didn't catch any squawfish. Darn!

Re: Possible New State Record
Sorry guys, but those "gill plates" sure fit a walley, and the scale pattern is off for a Pikeminnow.. Like mike says, "wish there were better pics".
Re: Possible New State Record
That's what I was thinking. A little fat for a walleye but a walleye all the same...Mike Carey wrote:I wish there were better pics, that sorta looks like a walleye.
Re: Possible New State Record
Looks like a Pikeminnow to me. Having Walleye in Clear lake would be big news.
Re: Possible New State Record
I can tell you what it is not, it is not a northern pikeminnow. Notice that the fish in the photos has two separate dorsal fins. Pikeminnows have a single dorsal and lack an adipose fin, so this is definitely not a pikeminnow. With the exception of the small looking mouth, this fish looks like a walleye.

Re: Possible New State Record
Huh. Well when you put it that way.. I guess you're right. If so... that's awesome.

Yeah. He's decided to abandon the record thing Instead he's got himself quite a feast.
Re: Possible New State Record
I guess I better go update the Clear Lake description to include Walleye.

Re: Possible New State Record
It will probably be the best tasting pikeminnow he's ever eaten.
Re: Possible New State Record
Can't see the dorsal fin, but looks like a walleye to me.

Re: Possible New State Record
LOL I was just thinking, man that looks like a big walleye when I saw the pics. But since I've only caught a few of them on Banks, my walleye "eye" isn't that sharp. Nice fish either way!
Re: Possible New State Record
It was I who mis-identified the fish as a pikeminnow.......sorry but I have not caught a walleye or a pikeminnow before....I am a new angler...this being my first season of serious fishing.....it is my new passion...I love it!.....the wife and I have fished Clear Lake the most this year with us reaching our trout limit every time....mostly night fishing with submersible green lights.....I got that big walleye around 2am slow trolling with the minkota in about 15' of water about 200 yards str8 out from the public launch.....full nightcrawler with a piece of yellow gulp...thats all. Biggest fish I ever caught....fun catch....even better with beer-batter and coleslaw!

Dave! You singed up! Sorry it wasn't a record breaking fish, but congrats on the walleye.. it's a big'un!
Stick around! There's a lot of good information here. My current project lake is Deer lake up north of Loon. I haven't quite cracked it yet... still coming home empty handed but I'm hoping that soon it reveals its secrets to me like Clear has for you.
