Re: rod question
If you are looking for a less expensive king rod option try the Berkley A94-9MH IM-8 Air rod. It can be had on sale for about $65 ($80 regular price @ SportCo) and IMHO is about the best bang for your buck rod you can buy ANYWHERE. 9' 2pc IM-8 graphite rated 10-20lbs with a really sensitive tip and a ton of backbone.

Re: rod question
i guess i dont mind getting rid of some junkRvr_fshr wrote:I guess I dont see how a rod you have to be careful with is "da best". Regardless, if you have money to blow on the glitz and glam, thats all you! Ill gladly take the gl2 off your hands tony, ill even put it through the hawg test for you! Pm me if you would like to sell your 10'6 gl2
I FISH THEREFORE I AM
Re: rod question
i love my gl2, it seems just fine on the sensitivity, and man it can take a whopping
Re: rod question
i let my friend use my 20 pound meat rod and i used my 4-10 pound light action lol. i hooked up 6 times landed 2 but it was pretty scary any time the fish did a hard run. i thought my pole was going to snap a few times. ended up just making them run in circles around me with a lot of side pressure.
not the best way to catch fish, that was for sure, but still fun.
im probably not going to try that again tho, already wasted 100 bux on a rod busting this year.

Re: rod question
I will say I love my shimano Clarus for a cheapish rod 10' 8-17 it has been abused kings pinks coho chum slapped against other rods bent my eye's down to the rod dropped. still catch's fish best thing about it lifetime warranty over the counter. you break it take it back to the store and get a new one no paying 50 or 100 bucks...
I am still partial to the Shimano convergence also my son has that rod I love that rod too. it is a 10'6" I think it is 6-12 i am not 100% sure

Right on! That's a fun time on light tackle, but you're right, you can get sweat on your brow when they make those epic runs.
Re: rod question
I'm with you with the GL2's. I haven't fished with one myself, but every time I pick one up in the store it feels clunky and oversized. It reminds me of my IM6 noodle rods. The older ones come with fewer and standard sized guides, and fishing with anthing but micro guides for me just adds a bunch of clunk to the rod. My gl3 1082 is a sweet steelhead rod, and if you're going to spend that much on a rod anyway, you'll want to get that extra 100 some how to get the big guns. If you go with a gl2 it's like getting a brand new stereo but not getting the 2 twelves in the trunk to match. If you're going to go big, do it right. It's not worth buying a loomis if you're not going to get the best that they make, it makes a world of difference.OFFDAAHOOK wrote:actually gl2 use a low modulous graphite..in term more durable but heavyer blank. xmg/imx/glx used high modulous graphite 30% weight reduction but less durable. i gotta say gl2s are good rod and will last a long time. but if you careful with high modulous rod you wont have any probs. id rather spend a little more and get da best...i visit nfc /gary loomis factory they explained to me da difference . them rods were unreal
Re: rod question
since we are on the topic of rods who is a great person to have built a custom rod? I think I may go with a custom set up...
Re: rod question

Re: rod question
The reason i never bought a loomis rod theyre too heavy i go for the lightest possible. If there is a better built rod than Jims i want it.

Re: rod question
that's the whole reason I could build a Piece of crap lol but I rather someone build if for me so I know it won't fall apart on me when I get a fish.sickbayer wrote:There is only one guy i go to that is jim mericer of xrdoz i am having my second rod rod built a cuttroat trolling rod, not cheap but if your gonna get one built why cut corners.
Re: rod question
Take a trip to redmond go see his shop, you wont leave without buying one. I sprouted for his top of the line steelhead rod currently pairded with a exo reel, but it doesnt seem to match the rod so i am ordering a c14 , i think i am as light as i ca go for now.dicinu wrote:that's the whole reason I could build a Piece of crap lol but I rather someone build if for me so I know it won't fall apart on me when I get a fish.sickbayer wrote:There is only one guy i go to that is jim mericer of xrdoz i am having my second rod rod built a cuttroat trolling rod, not cheap but if your gonna get one built why cut corners.
