Sky gets good runs because of the Reiter Ponds and the Wallace hatchery, as well as the native fish as well...Eggs works well but it's a messy and tougher way of fishing for them, they are the best high water/dirty water technique by far though...

Sam is right. Eggos are some seriously messy beasts. But they do work - the problem I have is rebaiting all the time. Less messy are sandshrimp, but same problem there with rebaiting all the time. I always prefer gear over bait if I can get away with it, so i usually go with a spoon or jig and float.

That being said, after a two seasons with a measurable amount of tries and years subscription to Steelhead Trout Salmon magazine, I'm still 0-fer in the steely department. I'm hoping this winter I'll pop my cherry.

Nope no bait for spinners/wigglewarts..

You can still scent them....

I know they wrap kwikfish with sardine wraps, but never seen wigglewarts baited...

As close as you will get to baited "spinners" are spin n glos with a hefty glob of eggs trailering the spin n glow...

speaking of spin n glos has anyone used them in rivers and had success i have a couple nad havent really used them but i really like the action on them but i dont understand how you could get them to sink with out a hunk of lead or somthing or are they a top-water salmon lure?

You definetely use weight for spin n glos to get them down near the bottom...

When using eggs is there a special way to attach them? I tried using them the other day and when I casted they went flying off. Also I would bet current will tear them off. So with the jig and float does is the action of the float enough to work the jig or do you kind of jiggle your rod to give action. What is the technique cast up stream and let it drift in the current till it gets down below you then retrieve and repeat. I have the idea down just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I know presentation can make all the difference between catching and not catching.

Some egg cures are better than other in terms of staying on the hook. It helps to use scissors to cut through the skeins rather than trying to rip them apart, you get nicer more uniform pieces that are still in good enough chunks to stay on the hook. But, there's not much more than that you can do. There's a lot of re-baiting involved when using bait.

With the jig and float, you're not really going for any "action" persay. It's not at all like jig fishing for bass. Basically, the fish are close to the bottom looking upstream and therefore can see anything the current is bringing to them. So you want to cast upsteam and float the jig through runs where you think fish are holding. You want it to look as natural as possible - drag free drift - meaning it shouldn't seem like you have a line attached to your float. They are close to the bottom, so you want your jig as close to the bottom as you can get. Maybe even bouncing off a rock here and there.

Adding to what Drewp said, you use slight waves and bumbps in the water to give the jig any action. Meaning the float will go through the drift and any waves will cause the float to rise and fall over the water while going downriver, causing the jig to move a bit underwater in response to the way the float bumps...

Might try out putting your egg clusters in a bit of spawn net...it will stay on much longer. Do you tie your own leaders? If you just use the egg clusters by itself tie your leader with an egg loop and put the egg cluster in the loop...usually will stay on for a handful of casts. HTH!

If I where you I would stick with the slip bobber and a jig tecnique tip it with prawn or sandshrimp. Wiggle warts are mostly for boat fishing.
