I'd've guessed 25 easy and that's being cautious. It's a huge fish. It was long and heavy, and I couldn't even get my hand halfway round its tail. It was like a long skinny big king. I'm happy with my photo of it anyway.

I see where you may have calculated the length wrong nate. The spinner may be 2.5 inches long but your little colored line up against the spinner doesnt go the full length of the spinner, if the spinner is 2.5 inches long, it looks like your line you created doesnt even get close to the top and doesnt come to the bottom of the spinner in the pic either. The line looks to only be about 1.5 inches long. So if you multiply 27.5 by 1.5 you get a 41 inch steelhead, which is much more reasonable and would put the fish in at around 20 pounds, which is what i would guess from the photo.

Yea, I just noticed that too. I messed up and measured from the stupid body weight in the photo because it looked like the blade. On my spinner at home the butt on the size 6 body thingy goes to a little more than 1 and a half. Oops. Either way, huge fish and I'm still happy about it. I'm going to buy a measuring tape and a scale when I get around to it. I think I want to know the weights of my fish now. One of these days the record will get broken, I'm sure it already has been because retention has been closed for them and guys throw them back.

Yea i hear ya. Problem is we cant really use a scale to weigh native steelhead because u cant even take um out of water, so the only way to estimate is to do the length girth thing with a tape. I carry one but rarely use it, i just guess the weight. Nice to be able to weigh hatchery fish tho with a scale, i got a sweet digital for free which is very very accurate. I weighed my 17.7 lb buck last week on it and it said 17.68, and the certified scale at freds said 17.71 so its nice to know it works. But yes nate, either way thats a GREAT way to end the season. Vedder has started the snowmelt so it looks like my season is done, might try the high water once or twice, but im gonna have to be happy ending on that buck. Wish i woulda broke 20 this year!! gonna have to go for a 50lb chinook now.

we gonna have to tape measure it or guess cause they announced again its closing on july 15th today for retention. were gonna go and SLAUGHTER them over there after it closes tho. POssible to nail a huge one before but big ones are usually later. I hope its as good as last year it was UNREAL couldnt even get the downrigger down BOOM huge king double headers in gale force winds 15 foot capping waves haha god i love it

Vedder closes in a few days, and this was my last trip.
So, here is a video of my last steelhead this winter.
Caught him in high water on the vedder in the mouth of a creek

Last steelhead, I landed 181 steelhead this winter. Looking forward to salmon this summer in the salt
We can FINALLY say goodbye to this thread. Bring on the Springers

This may be true. But i doubt i make another long drive for steelhead in may, especially if it means going to the ever so secret notellum or " cowlitz" as some might call it. Lolol but i would love to see pics if anyone nails some steel in may!!! Thread may not be dead yet! Bring it on!
