Cold weather (water) Musky fishing

I was wondering at what water temp most guys call it for the year? I fished today and picked up a small fish (33 1/2") and the water temp was 55 degrees. They still seem to be fairly active but I would guess it's not too far off before it becomes tough. Mike.

Well, maybe it has to do with hunting getting in the way LOL.
Lots of good spring-skiing days get bypassed for golf tee times.

Many say it drops off directly with the temp, but not always.
bad esox and myself are going to hit it again Sunday mornin' and try a little different technique.
muskyhunter may go out, too.

With your luck, jigman, you'll catch fish all winter... heh heh heh

Hey Mike & Kup,
Don't call it quits till you cant put your boat in anymore. Any whoo....been reading the latest issue of Muskyhunter (which my son has a picture in) page 75 Musky tales..Musky is spelt right with the "y" you notice KUP ? The prime time for hunting Musky is right now. Colder water does effect the fish though you will have to work way harder to get the fish. Any way you still can hit the weed beds that are there.The outer edges work well too especially with a nice drop off around/deeper water. I am going to do more trolling.Crankbaits in the 8- 15 foot depth area along the edges of the drop offs or even the edges of channels. Still going to hit the flats and points. The feeder fish will still be around just watch your depth finder. Heck Mike, you'd probably be able to pull a fish from a septic tank with the good luck you've been having all year. Just read alot though..thats normally what I do...sometimes it works...And wear gloves...Todd

How is Mayfield and Tapps this time of year?

I went out to silver on wednesday and it was the first time I got skunked this year. I haven't been out there since end of august (hunting season). I spent a few hours fishing the weeds, then about four hours trolling and still nothing. This is the latest I've ever fished for tigers. I'm sure I just need to learn this season better, like I had to learn how to catch them after ice out. I'm not going to try to learn it this year though I put the boat away.

Trolling Tapps does work...!! Bill Green catches them most of the time trolling....I got a 44 X 20 trolling today....not 21 lbs...probably 25 for sure. She is a fatty just got done feeding. It does work. Always believed it. Trolling a drop off adjacent to a flat..great day!! Got her on a grandma,6 inches brown in color..I could have used this fish in Sept at Mayfield!! Just gotta believe and it'll eventually work out.

I also had a great morning on Tapps. We (Kup and myself) contacted two smaller fish. The mountain was fabulous in all her glory today.

Sounds like you 3 had a ball! The weather sure was nice, wish I could have gone this weekend. Looks like the weather is going to be lousy this week so it may be a while for me, not much fun boating in the rain. See ya thursday, Mike.

It was a beautiful day to out on the water in the great northwest!

And yeah, we will stay at it in Tapps until they pull the plug, then we'll move to Merwin for the winter.

Were going to start looking into the trolling method more. There are days when ya just cant toss lures for more than a half an hour. What speed and deapth are key for trolling Musky?
