Bass pheromones?

This is a great subject and I know that I don't know jack about whether the chemicals released stop the bite. The usual case for me when catching bass is that the next one caught seems harder to catch if anything else is caught. However, that has changed this year and catching more than one seemed to be more of the norm than just one.

I too have seen on a number of occassions, a fishing trailing the one I hooked up. The free fish usually seemed to "want" the lure for itself as if it wanted to say to the other bass, "Give me some of that"

I have the book "Knowing Bass" I haven't finished it yet, but perhaps there might be a subject on this. If there is, I will share my findings with all of you.

While we're talking about research- where do you guys find warmwater fishing books? It seems the B&N and Borders stores up here have never heard of bass, perch, crappie, or catfish; the vast majority of books are on fly-fishing, trout, or salmon. I don't like buying books online since I can't preview them to determine wether or not they are worthwhile.

I got a couple off Amazon called "What Fish Don't Want You to Know: An Insider's Guide to Freshwater Fishing" and "The Ultimate Guide to Freshwater Fishing". The first is basic, but may help with lure selection and understanding of fish habitat and psychology. The second is for people with deep pockets or a very open mind. Very technical and advanced too. Their suggested rigs and methods involve hundreds of lures I don't and never will have.

Me too. Then if the book is worth keeping, I will buy it at a book store.

I have caught smallmouth bass with distinctive marks, released it, then a few casts later I caught the same bass, not only did he not warn his buddies, he bit my crankbait twice!!
