Prop for a merc/mariner 9.9

Post by edge540 » Mon Aug 01, 2011 3:36 am

I hit a dead head on silver lake this weekend and wasted the prop on my 9.9 mariner/mercury 2 stroke short shaft. Anybody have one laying around to sell or can you guys recommend a either a good prop shop or dealer for a new one(hopefully one of the sponsors of this site) I live in maple valley and work in sumner so hopefully between those is good( I hate going to Seattle)

Try these guys for price. http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/
I have bought a couple of props from them and would do so again if need be. Just provide the info about your motor and the pitch you want and you will probably get 4 or more props from which to choose. If you are using the motor as a dedicated troller, I suggest the 4 bladed prop with a pitch of 5 made by Solas. If you are using it as a main motor, you'll probably want a pitch of 9 or so. There is a link near the bottom of the intial screen to help you select the correct prop for your application and provide a bit of background and information regarding props in general.

I bought a new prop for my 8hp a couple months ago from a prop shop on ebay. Was a little scared but had a great experience also. Name brand prop at a cheap price. Shipping was also very quick. I checked all the local boat shops and they were 40 to 50 bucks more then I paid and no one had it in stock as it wasn`t a common size. If you want to go that route pm me for the info.

I went through the same drill a couple months ago. Go to a local dealer, they're with in 2 or 3 bucks of buying one online and you will know you have the right part.
And yes I checked all the prices online and got three different props quoted for the same engine. Didn't want the return hassle so I gave the dealer the serial off the motor and he got me the exact one for like $3 more than the cheapest guy online.
No brainer!!!

It`s a no brainer if you don`t want the hassle or you aren`t sure of what size etc.. I found a prop from a reputable dealer on ebay for 30$ cheaper then any marine or boat shop could offer. The marine shops/outboard shops couldn`t come close. If you consider 30$ close.:)

I do when your shipping and handling was probably $70.

Personally I hate buying on ebay or online if I can buy local. The thought of waiting a week or 2 for shipping and getting screwed by someone across country makes my sphincter pucker. That said there are some great deals online but im just a hands on kinda guy and I like to see it in the store and hand the man some cash.

I dropped my prop off at Limit Out, He is going to show it to his prop guy and see if its fixable or sell me a spare. Gotta try not to druel all over the boats next time im down there. :-#

Now that sounds like a plan. Mine was too far gone for repair, I was going to buy a new one and have a spare.

Yea I figure if he can fix it cheap Ill have it for a spare and then buy a new one for a runner. I keep spares for both motors on the whaler so it would be good to have one on the lil boat.

You picked the best outboard shop in my opinion. Russ and all the guys down there are honest no BS kinda guys. It is hard not to drool over the boats.

If they're so great why did you buy your prop off EBay? Did you tell them about the great deal you got?

Russ does all the work on my outboards except for props. They and all the other shops wanted over 100$ for a prop and I got the prop for my 8hp for just under 80$ with shipping and only waited 4 days. If I`d have been in a hurry I would have paid the extra dollars or if I didn`t know what I wanted. But I see where your coming from.
