Most everybody that I know who is a good fisherman has there own secrets that they never tell anyone except of course their good friends. If you have "secrets" that helps you produce more fish and you wish to share them to help people out or if you have something interesting that you think might work then share the info please.Im really curious to see if this will get many replies because most people want to keep to themselves. It will be cool to see what some people do differently then other anglers.

Most ppl here on Washingtonlakes are trying to help eachother.
It is to my knowledge that most ppl probably dont keep much secrets on this site.
But as usual, I've been wrong, so Lets see how many ppl have secrets that they havent already told us.

I agree. I've learned so much from everyone here that I consider myself a much better fisherman than last year (when I started). One thing that that people have said, and I find that I agree, is that when you hear of something, you go right out and try it. Work it out till you understand what they are saying to do. And most of all, don't be afraid to ask questions. Some times, that will prompt a seasoned angler to give up a secret or two.

I'll give away a simple one for those guys trying get the carp for the 5 species contest. Once you find a lake/river that contains carp, go to the busiest marina with a food shop on it or one that is part of a resort. Either get a strong net or pole and throw out some food into the water and put what you have left on a trebel hook. You should see a pile of carp fighting for the food long after the first one got it.

When it come to regular catfish use chicken or beef livers. They work best if you let them get warm and stinky during the day and then start using them at night.

For mega-bass catch some live baby frogs (~1"), bait your hook, and have at it. Of course, you'll have to go to another state to test it out.

Spend the winter monthes reading and studying every book you can find concerning bass fishing. Practice casting, pitching, and flipping in you backyard during the winter. Start fishing early in the season before you think the bass have started migrating to prespawn locations. Up here I usually start at the end of Feb. Apply what you have learned.

Fish with as many other bass fishermen as possible, not the same crowd week-in-and-week-out. Join a bass club and become active in all the events, even the clean-ups.

I am always happy to share what litle knowledge I have on bass fishing, however I decided to stop posting bass fishing reports because I've seen far too many in person and pictures on this site of people keeping illegal slot limit bass. This year seems to be worse than usual. I would say the bass slot limit is among the most ignored regulations in the rule book. Hopefully the WDFW will start cracking down on it in the coming years.

I agree, but too bad wdfw doesnt care enough about warmwater to enforce it. They are out busting people for not punching their catch card within seconds of catching a salmon/steelhead and the likes.

Here is one for yall it works for me when fly fishing,a olive leech pattern with sparkle tinsel.I'll work the lilly pads and under water structure.The first time I caught a bass on a fly pole man was it exciting.Explosive strike and a pretty good fight.

Actually I have heard that if you take tooth paste and scrub ur hooks and metal lures, that it is supposed to make them more shiny because of all the chemicals and compounds that are put into the tooth paste to make our teeth whiter. Not sure though, just something I have kept secret that I have heard.

Toothpaste? The chemicals in it that actively "whiten" your teeth are hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Unless you are using aluminum or raw steel hooks (I highly doubt it), this is going to accomplish nothing since stainless steel doesn't oxidize fast enough for you to ever have to worry about it.

If you feel your stainless steel hooks aren't bright enough, use some steel wool & WD40, Never-Dull, or brake cleaner. You'll get quicker results using these methods. Just make sure that you thoroughly clean them off before you even remotely consider using them.

tooth paste back in the day had more abrasives in it and it was almost like a polishing compound - now they are more chemical and gel-based and not so good for other tasks anymore.

One thing that I found usefull, but haven't done for a while. Is Put a little scratch book or diary in my tackle box. So when ever you get facts or info that is of importants. You can write it down and have it for later. Its very usefull when you are stuck and dont know what to do. Just pull it out, open to the place you need and read what you wrote.
