Guess the weight of this fish

Post by Fish-N-Fool » Sun Apr 17, 2011 4:47 am

I was out Pike fishing on the P.O. River yesterday with PDXfisher from Chapter 57 and I hooked into a nice but not what I would call a monster Pike. I had first guessed her maybe at or a little over 10Lb. I had hooked her kinda deep on the swimbait I was using so it took me longer then it should to get the hook out and get her back in the water then I like. So I only lifted her long enough for one quick shot and didn't try to tape or weigh the fish.
She swam away just fine, but at home after I got the picture on the computer she looked bigger then I had first thought so I put the pixs into MNS paint and using my sunglasses as a scale which are 5 1/2" across (that's 39 pixels) so using 39 X 39 pixels boxes across her, this fish was a minimum of about 36" to 37". So what do you guys think it weighed?

Here is the same pixs without the boxes

A 36.5 inch Pike would probably weigh weigh between 12.5-13.5 pounds. Just a guess but I think that would be pretty accurate.

Yeah, nice looking fish for sure! I'm hoping to find some just like it tomorrow.

After thinking about this a little more I think my guess of 37 in. was a bit big. Because the fish is a little closer to the camera then my sunglasses are the 5 1/2" rule would be off some, so I think that a 5" rule per box would be closer. So I think this fish was closer to 35" then 37".

I would guess it is right about 12 pounds. Nice fish.

The fish drapes over your hand and lays on the diagonal of the two left squares. The diagonal of a 5x5 square is about 7inches so if able to straigthen that out I think you would gain about 4 inches length. So my guess is 40 incher and it lookes heavy to me. I say 13#er.

In any case, was a nice one.

I believe a Fish-n-fool special forum would be fitting! Any thoughts?

We could start a new game "Guess that weight" Game would only apply to fish and not other objects in the photo.

Funny. Just cover the picture with a fishnet grid, piece of cake.

I did think that gird deal was pretty interesting stuff, FnF. Hadn't seen that used before.
