Gear lube question

Post by johnsgonefishin » Wed Apr 06, 2011 12:59 am

I changed my gear lube tonight. I had to switch bottles mid change, and I think a little air may have been put in during the change. It filled until it drizzeled out the top hole. Does the air rise to the top in the case, or is there a chance of an airpocket in the middle of my gear case. I am probably just paranoid, but my old outboard just needed the one tube, and it looked like a little blast of air may have got in there. Any recomendations?

You should be fine. The amount displace by any bubbles would be negligible but in any case you could always give it a day and top it up again.

Yup, I agree with Bodo. The air will rise. Give it a check after 24 hours and after your first trip in the water.

I just changed my gear lube... well, drained the water out of the gearbox anyway #-o All new seels and gears for me...

O relax. I had an old Merc that never sealed out the water. I think it preferred water to gear lube. LOL
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.
