Im going through the same Dilema as you are, trying to hook up with some fish. The problem for me is the hook set. Makes me mad when I cant hook the darn fish. But yeah, we will hit a big hog eventually! Im hitting the lake tomorrow around 7, if any1 has any tips that would be great.

I am just learning...so I have no real useful tips. Just from a pure fishing aspect...good line and sharp hooks. Above all...have fun and try to learn something every time out.

Yesterday, I decided to play around Kapowsin for a few hours to work on my presentation techniques. The night before, I purchased a waist pack some top water lures, and decided to walk around the lake as far as my two legs would carry me. Doing so kind of gave me a new perspective..."If I were a big fat bass...where would I hide?". I found myself taking risks and fishing in quit a bit of old dead fall, weeds...and even amongst old dock pillars. I ended up dragging out a handful of smallies, a large mouth, two logs, and one nice fat overhanging tree branch while doing so.

It almost became a game to me, a challenge...a game of hide and seek and a challenge of how can I get to them. The smallies come from an area that was more wide open with few obstacles. Not much of a challenge, except balancing myself on logs to cast. While the LMB came from a crapier looking area that before I would have never fished even as a last resort. Areas I had to walk along the bank, hop across downed logs...even push through a few blackberries to get to. These areas made me concentrate on finessing my presentation and being more stealthy. Flipping my lures to and bouncing them off of stumps, skirting lily pads, and even casting off handed just to get my lures into an area I wanted to work.

While I didn't land the big one, I learned a few things. Or at least I think I did. And had fun doing it to boot. Which was a great change from the normal day of increased frustration and confusion. A big fat lunker is headed my way, I am convinced of that. It is just a matter of timing...and a bit more practice. And when it does happen...watch out!! I'll be the one tucked back off in the corner of the lake running around giggling like a twelve year old school girl hopped up on licorice and mountain dew...!!

Good luck with fishing tomorrow!!

I did like I said and Fished Round lake today early around 7 oclock. Started off using a X-rap trying to see if and larger fish would attack the 5in swimbait. No luck came of that, but as soon as I switched to using a jig, I amediately started getting bites. Ppl have been telling me that switching spots is key to catching the bass. Well I say THATS JUST YOUR OPINION! So I fished my usual spot hoping that maybe I would finaly catch that first bass on a jig. First couple of rips were on successful, even after ripping for the fences. But then... When I thought there was no way I could hook the dang fish. I tried setting the Hook completely sideways and set the hook right in the Sweet Spot through the top of that basses Head. Fish was only about 10"s but I was so Freaking Proud, I was actually laughing kind of hard haha. Fish was fine and had a successful release. Fished about 2 more hours, but had no only a few minor nibbles that made the other bites feel like Slams.

Good job on working the lake, It helps when you know the structures and where the bass like to hang out. Now that you have located both species of bass, all there is now is to play the waiting game and slowly hunt that big hog down. Patience is diffenently key when using jigs, because That was the first bass I have taken with a jig since I started using them over a month ago.

Hoping to Get back on the lake again really soon.
