Do pinks hit the red hook like sockeye do?
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I have caught humpies on a spinnerbait for bass and a blob of powerbait. They will literally eat ANYTHING.

in 09 i heard a story from one older fisherman using lug nuts painted pink when he was a kid and catching humpies. they'll hit just about anything that's placed in front of them with some movement. they just hit somethings better than others.

In 09 I ended up narrowing it down to driftfishing from shore with small orange corkie, pink yarn, red Gamagatsu hook and a bit of home cured eggs to entice a bite from the occasional "sherbert seeking" silver. They bit anything you threw at them though!

I like casting pink and green or pink and white buzz bombs or pink and white spoons down lower on the snoho to cover lots of waterr during those first few slow days. Or even floating with the current and jigging buzzbombs up and down, theres just to many ways to catch them! haha
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

If it's humpy meat it can stay there too!

Last humpy run I filled my card, smoked em all up, packaged them and handed em out as holiday presents to everybody - coworkers, the mailman, neighbors, etc. Made good brownie points all around, and gave me the opportunity to try some new brine recipes and practice my fillet skills without the fear that I was ruining a good batch of meat.:-$

i agree! i like'em out in the salt (when properly bleed & iced), but once they hit the river i'm good they get in the way of bigger fish.

I second the buzzbomb + hoochie method. slow retrieve, not jig and they can't lay off it.

Small red bead and black yarn. light on the lead just enough to tap the bottom and no more. Cast out and slow retrieve. I hooked a few of em the last few pink runs. I use that set up and do well. Im thinking of using an ultra light trout rod this year just to make it fun. Not many silvers and kings in the puyallup and green anyhow any more. And as long as I play em right I might even get one in if I happen to hook one. Im thinking 4lb main and 2lb leader. Never gone that light on a river though should be fun.
More fish please!

Sounds like that would be a good fight!
I remember I was fishing for pinks at the NAS at Whidbey Island and we could see a whole school heading north. We would cast about 10-15 feet in front of the school and watch tham attack our buzz bombs almost every cast. And we would occasionaly catch a few silvers mixed in with the school.

i typically put on my coho colors, darker as to not attract quite so many pinks. pinks are fun but get annoying when trying to target coho, i had many many days on the puyallup last pink run with limits of chrome coho, hope this next fall is the same!!

I like to use a # 1 trebble hook with a 6 foot leader and a 2 oz cannonball lead above it. Just throw it out there, JERK, and repeat.

No, I don't eat them, I just do it for sport..... so I'm not a Russian, that would make me a redneck I reckon.
