Reminds me of Beaver Lake after they dump the triploids in!

On one day of the year the Dogon people of Mali can fish in the sacred water of Lake Antogo.
It's every fisherman for himself as the lake is emptied in minutes.

Wow. And those fish were tiny. There must be some spiritual significance or something, because more than half those people got skunked!

In all seriousness, I'd be willing to bet that lake is 100 times bigger than that at the beginning of the wet season and is probably fed by a river. By the time the lake gets that small its time to catch all the fish so they don't go to waste when it dries up. A lot of those traditions religious or otherwise have their origins rooted in practicality and a wierd sence of fairness to all. Some of those fish caught right off the bat were pretty good sized.

Yeah and because the tribe is a whole its prolly not everyone for thereselve. They more then likely take the whole catch and preserve what they can and have a feast as a whole. That is how tribes do it. So even the ones that did get skunked really didnt get skunked more then likely. They will still eat with everyone else.

I concure! I guess we go kinda tribal on my boat. We always fish the boat so everyone goes home happy....
