A Christmas Puzzle

Post by Gringo Pescador » Tue Dec 21, 2010 9:22 pm

I have an old friend who was my coworker for many years, then retired and is now doing what he loves. He invents puzzles. He used to bring prototypes in and let me solve/critique them (or at least try). He is in a close knit organization of puzzle makers that includes Will Shortz (New York Times X-word Puzzle creator) & Erno Rubik (Rubik's cube). This guy is pretty amazing. He used to come in and draw a pool table on the white board, then proceed to tell me the angle degrees and rate of speed and spin on the ball he put to make a shot the night before. You tell him your birth date, he will fire back the day of the week you were born before you can finish your sentence. He has a room in his house, full sized pool table in the middle and the walls are all shelves behind glass doors, hundreds, maybe thousands of puzzles he has collected.

This is the X-mas card I got from him this year. Enjoy...

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Nice job Marc!

The hardest one will definately be the 2nd line - here is a hint..
In his working life my friend spent 30 years as an IBM MAINFRAME computer programmer (sometimes it is good to go back to old school ways)..

I kind of figured that it might be related to computer programing somehow. In that area, I am totally lost.[confused]
