Fish Creek Camo Arrow Bucktails

Post by fishcreekspinners » Wed Dec 15, 2010 1:40 pm

First off, Happy Holidays!

Check out these camo arrow bucktails. I sponsored a buck contest in PA and made these for a contest winner. I'll be making another set out of spent .308 brass next for another category. Stay tuned!

Image

These are 6/10oz and filled with 5/16 buck shot sized black nickel beads strung inside the arrow shaft. My son Ben hand-tied the bucktail on #2 brass trebles.

Turned out pretty nice and should make some fish attracting racket when that shot rattles inside the shaft.

Maybe even rattle up a Muskie buck!

Here are those spent .308 cartridge casings reused in Muskie spinner form. Weigh 1oz with the bullet head. 9/10oz with the black beads.

Nice. Do you fill it with bb's and then seal the top? I would like to see no smaller than 2/0 hooks on them for muskie.....

Scented with cordite and available on your brass!

Nah, they aren't free rattles. They're 5/16 size black nickel beads strung on the wire. There will be water flow in the casing.

I have larger trebles ordered. Ben tied what we had on hand. I think they were 1/0's, not 2/0's though. Didn't order that many - lots of small steps.

Those spinners look great! I would certainly use the 308's. Yes hook size would need to be much larger for Tiger Muskies. However what your using now is perfect for Pend Orielle Pike. I've tested a number of spinners and skirt combos and out here just alittle bunny fur with the bucktail adds alot of action. Can I order them without the hooks and skirts as I tie my own?

I can sell without the bucktail hooks for about a buck less. Silicon skirts on other models are a little trickier because they're strung on the wire, so removing them will alter wieght, look, etc. You can PM or email me with your specifics if you want. If you have bigger casings, 30-06 or 7mm, that you want them made out of they would likely weigh more when finished.

I went to your web site, will order through there. Your Specical Edition Bucktails with the 3D eyes must be killers! I fished with the "Cudaman" eyed bucktail this fall with wonderful results with the Pike. The Cudaman looks very simular, but Brett is often too busy to make them. Over the next month or so I'll try to order a few, would love to have a nice collection of your lures. I really like the overall look of your Muskie/Pike selection. >:"":>

All of our bigger tackle is in the early stages of development. Except for the cowbells being a hit in CO and SD, there hasn't been much feedback.

If you're buying from Cudaman, please continue to do so. I didn't realize he was selling his tackle.

Doug,

John does a great job putting these together. I have two left, and lost one he custom built for me. Both caught pike for me on the Pend O'Reille when you were over for the tournament.

John, Cudaman really isn't is the business, yet. He builds lures for the love of it and does a great job. But like the other Doug I can see some things in your lures that just flat out work. My father and I built our own spinners for trout in North Idaho for many years. Later he built them for Salmon and Steelhead, just for our own use. While they are just simple parts and pieces its what they look or sound like to the fish. Its either food, competition for food or it just plain pisses them off. The use of the eyes in your creations is key. I tie salmon flies for the saltwater with an epoxy head and a holographic eye, very effective. I'm anxious to give your lures a try next season. If you need feedback on your lures, no problem.

Its creative fun. no argument from this wire bender.

Our thing is 'more components' = 'more noise'. Eye is very fishy looking, too good to ignore. I dont know if you found the hydrophone recordings of our spinners or not, but www.fishcreekspinners.com/index_noise.html (paste in URL address box) page has quite a few stacked up.

You might get a kick out of listening to them. (especially good for chasing kids or spouses out of a room if you need some time to yourself).

The wire running thru the components amplifies the clevis or propeller rotation while the blade bangs the heck out of everything behind it. A lot of racket and vibration. Each model has its own noise profile. Checkout the little FireAnt or the differences between the glass armadillos vs metal. The metal discs make a lot of contact with the blade during rotation and that ring seems to cause a reaction strike response, like you said. After some use, you'll see friction wear lines on the underside of the blade matching the spacing of the discs.

I hope you try out a few and give them some time in the water. We've got a bunch of spinners waiting for some fishing adventure and anxious to get wet. Cast after Cast! Cheers.
