Largemouth bass - 'Is there any way to cook 'em that doesn't taste bad?'
RE:Largemouth bass - 'Is there any way to cook 'em that doesn't taste bad?'
the fresher the fish when you clean them the better, i've eaten big bass and smaller ones and would have to say that i perfer the smaller ones so i don't keep the big ones as often, i fillet all my fish and wash the meat , let it sit little while to let the blood come out of the meat, then one last rinse before it goes into the freezer. if i plan on eating it the next day i'll set it in cold water in the fridge with a little salt, the water will be tinted by morning and i'll change the water especially if its bigger fish. i like dipping in egg/milk then in salteen crackers that i crush up fine in a big ziplock bag with a rolling pin, fried up in corn oil or butter, i've also have been experimenting with crushed variety of chips such as dorritoes, etc. but so far crackers are perfered. the warmwater fishery enhencement program hasn't been going that long in this state. it was long over due. they are still trying to figure out what most other states already know. <')//<

I'm gettin hungry Panfisher!! Have you ever tried cornflakes?....or graham crackers? Throw them in a blender and grind them up as fine as you can..Dip em' in a milk/egg mixture, then lay the fish in the mix cover them good.Dip them back in the egg/milk a second time in the graham/cornflake mix. Double coating is the secret. Then throw them in the deep frier and your good to go. FANFREEKIN TASTIC!!

Nope. That's the carp and gar recipe. :chef:FishFearMe wrote:My Grandfather used to tell me the secret to preparing good bass.
1. Get out your fillet board and fillet both sides, leaving the skin on.
2. Then thow away the fillets and cook the board. :chef:

I also know that if you keep a cooler in the boat wth just ice in it, throw your fish on the ice, especially when it hot outside. Icy cold, fresh fish is the best!!

There is no good way to cook bass! They are all oily, smelly, boney... They are only good for catch and release, or possibly mounting on the wall. I think it's best just to let them go.:geek:

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I have eaten bass before and they have tasted fine. They are not my favorite, that's sea bass, but they are still very good. Pan fried fillets, or deep fried filets, just so long as its fresh it bea's farmed salmon any day.

Well I don't think I have ever eaten LMB but I might have to try it now. I for one don't like to eat fish period. I am usaully a C&R fisherman. Love the hunt! I would like to add that I went on a fishing/camping trip to the Boundary waters in Minnesota and the main dish each night was the fish we caught that day. The primary fish we caught were Smallmouth Bass and let me tell you them fish were off the chain. They were cooked in a pan over an open fire with butter, onions, salt, pepper and oh yeah a little ash from the fire. LOL They were in the 1 to 2 lb range so I would have to agree that the LMB in that size are probably just as good. I always release my LMB in the hopes that one of them will grow into the 10 pounder I get to catch in the future. Tight lines and Good fish Dinners!!!!
WORK IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO FISH!
