Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!

i am just trying to save some one from injury. because u get to some of the combat zones and piss a person off ppl get hurt. thats all. there is fights yearly at reiter because of some of the stuff listed.

Its still good. I do follow the unwritten laws of fishing and boating. Personally I seldom fish popular holes. I like to find that nice quiet peacefull spot where I can cast ,put the bell on ,and relax near a fire.I drift alot just not in crowded areas.Im at peace with all ya.Just keep your hands out my tackle box.Hahaha

The easiest action to take at a thread you dislike is not to open it and read it. Some of us conversate by this method. Everyone has their own type of passion towards fishing.Ifin you dont like the thread dont enter. Its plain and simple.

As for Fabio, He worked out at a downtown gym in Seattle, At the time I used to play handball and raquetball .I showed him pics of fishing and really wanted to try. So I went out with the 4 of us Fabio, Myself. A leading Proctologist from Swedish and a Anithesiologist (sp) from the same. I was fishing with thew Mucky Mucks of Seattle. Hehehe.Back then Fabio was only a high paid model and not pictured in them womenly books.

The topic seemed to be "Combat Fishing". To me that means were talking a war type of fishing. Some folks will go to any legnth to catch a bragger king.To me the topic already had that warlike appeal. Much like a war thats been going on along time. I see people getting so wupped up over Gitmo and how mean we are to our enemies.But this is WAR. If you persist at war or in this case "Combat Fishing" prepare yourselves for the worst of the worse.Unfortunately people cast over you Ive seen at Tokul Creek Mouth 3 layers of guys casting over other guys and then expect the lower tier guys to net their fish and if you dont ,you hear about it.Ok so we ventured off a lil bit but dont take things to heart so much. Perhaps the title of this thread "Combat" shouldve been reworded.To me jmo Combat = War.I'll usually wait for someone to net his fish before casting,but if the guy is using 6#test line and 4# test leader fighting a 25 # king and its been over a half hour I'll cast in.I cant fish anytime I want I work for a living. If you got a fish on by all means reel it in. But if you are playing the fish to have a jolly good time do it elsewhere. Its all about mutual respect. To get respect you need to earn it and give it back.Its like you guys that complain about threads like this want it all done your way or noway at all. Be fair in your judgements. Do unto others as others do unto you.. Something like that.Good luck to all.

I have been lurking on this site for about 2 yrs now without posting and I have learned alot frrom doing that. I catch a few fish (emphasis on few). I can walk to the Samish meat hole from my house but never cared to fish there, just don't need the grief. I also don't fish the holes that you all do and now I know why. This thread is like combat fishing, without the fish , gear or heartburn. I'll stick to the quiet little hole I have on the upper Skagit and have a good time. Good Luck to all.

Ok, so if you were to approach a river that is elbow to elbow, and you really wanted to fish, what would you do??

I probably would watch for 30 mins or so to see if and how fish are being caught and if folks are playing nice. Then I would move on and find a less crowded spot.

I'm sorry, I guess it warn't obvious from my posts but I am one of those new guys & I find some of the comments in the thread to be intimidating and uninviting. So as a new guy I will continue to lurk both here and when at the rivers, learn what I can and stay out of the way of vetrens. I don't think anyone should have a problem with that do you? So thank you for starting this thread- it tought me to keep away from the crowed holes and find my own places to fish. That works for you and me, no? As far as helping any other new guys I wish them luck however they get their education and hope they don't piss off the wrong person if they try to fish in a crowd. See... if the new guys stay away form all the vetrens that "know how to fish" and have their own little rules of how to behave around them, then no one has a problem.

On a personal note I go to the river for fun, I live on the river because it is beautiful and a crowded fishing hole is neither. My 2 cents.

Please don't take anything I say personallyit is not about you, it is about what others are saying. Understand ,if you will, that I fell sorta like your boys.

OK, I remember when I considered myself a "newbie" at this river stuff. By no means am I a "veteran", but I have a few seasons under my belt (and a few pounds of river fish in my freezer). Hopefully this will help someone out.

Like many, before the season hit, I studied up, asked questions, and geared up. The 1st time I hit a crowded river, I just stood back for awhile and saw how things were happening. Casting order, where they were fishing, what methods, etc.
If I found someone with their line out of the water I would ask em how they were doing and ask if they have any advice for someone who hadn't done this before. I did not make it a secret that I was new to this. Then I found a spot a little out of
the fray and started casting.

Basically from there I built my confidence and knowledge up and worked my way into the line with each new outing.
Now if I hit a crowded river, I will still watch what others are doing, map out the openings, decide which one is best for me to start and treat others as I would like to be treated. To date, I have never been chastised, threatened or harassed.

Now I like wide open spaces just as much as anybody unfortunately nowadays in the PNW the definition of fishing has changed, it is rarely (if ever) a truly solitary experience (especially if you are a bankie like me) so you have two choices, deal with it or move. I like it here, I'm staying.

No matter how many times I hae been a to a hole i will always watch hoe people are fishing it. It never seems to be the same way.

There is nothing wrong with asking people to cast in order. Hell on the skok last week I was fishing a small hole below the farm with about 6 other people. We were all hooking into fish left and right and snapping htem off as well. Well 20 minutes went by and with out a hook up and one guy spoke up and asked if it was okay with everyone if we stopped fishing for about 10 minutes. Everyone was poilte and agreed, so we stood in the river getting to know one another and talking about fishing for around 15 minutes and then the guy says lets try this again. One guy inthe midle casted fisrt. I was above him, so I asked him to pull his line in so the 4 guys below him could cast out first. He said "yeah no problem, I jsut got excited to hook inot another fish, I didn't mean to be rude". That is what I get from 99% of the people you talk to politely on the river. Most people know that there is a order of casting but they just get tunnel vision and think about that next fish they are going to have on the end of there line.


So be polite, talk to people as you are fishing. If you jsut stand there and don't talk and then spout out something about fishing in order or something like that you might cause a problem.

Anyways....goodluck guys the silvers are slowly working there way into the straights with a couple showing here and there in the sound.
