Summit Lake Bass??

I will be fishing a bass tourny on Summit this weekend and have never been on that lake. Any tips would be great.

Am not sure what the etiquette is but with the wealth of information out there I feel that any info that you can get and that is freely shared is a good thing.

In some cases it might be viewed as cheating, but that's one of the cool things about our club we are for the most part out to have a good time. We share info with each other and then try to beat each other. In the case of summit only three members have been on the water so it's kind of a blind tourney. If I do get any info I will be sharing with everyone to try and make a better day for all.

My opinion is even if someone tells you what to use on a given body of water, it does not equal success. There are way too many variables in fishing...weather, fish moods, etc. Not to mention the angler has to present said technique/ lures properly. Jay is right about it being a good thing. I say...share away. Wish I could help but I don't know the lake. Good luck!

You will improve exponentially faster as an angler if you try to figure the fish out on your own. Summit has both species, largemouth and smallmouth. You know the fish will be predominately in a post spawn/early summer pattern. Summit has perch, craws, bullhead cats, sunfish, cutthroat, rainbows and kokanee. There is a decent topo map available on this site as well. It is a small enough lake that this is plenty of info going into your tournament. Pay close attention to the weather trend leading up to your tournament as well as the forecast for tournament day. Based on this info, put together a flexible game plan, trust your instincts, fish your strengths, fish the conditions and switch gears as needed. 9 times out of 10 you'll be better off with this approach than listening to advice from others. Plus, you'll become a much better angler in a fraction of the time and not become reliant on information from others. That being said, good luck and catch the heck out of 'em.

One thing I would like to add is that if you have a small core group of fishing buddies/tourney partners that you can trust and you work well together, this is a great way to learn. Discussing techniques, patterns, bouncing ideas off each other, etc. Be very leery of any "info" you receive from your fellow club members, especially leading up to a tournament.

Do you have the oppurtunity to prefish it? That is one of the best things you could do. Just go fishing for fun and you could find that you had all the tools you needed and if you went blind and off some advice what if it was something you weren't confident in and no real plan B?

I will tell you to expect some pretty good wind there and when the wind picks up the bigger smallie bite will too!

Thanks guys for the info. I can't get up there and pre-fish this time and it's killing me. I don't like to blast off with so little info but I have studied the topo map and I have my goto bait to start the day. One of the club members made it up and caught some good fish so I'm hopeful. I will have my Mom and Daughter with me and we are all going to have a little tailgate BBQ after weigh in so it will be fun anyway. I guess what I was wondering was some bodies of water the fish have a preferance for plastics, spinnerbaits or hardware. I will fish my plastics most of the time anyway, but mabey I could turn some of the other members on to something and make it better day for all.
