He was caught drifting a worm below a spillway in a small canal! Caught on 6lb test with a 7' ultralight rod. It was a ten minute fight at least. The lake I was fishing below has MANY fish over 24". My friend caught a 7.1 lber the day before I got mine:-" None of the trout in the lake are trips either all regular rainbows and cutbows...

I was drifting that worm down and felt a couple taps so I set the hook then I pulled hard because it felt like a snag#-o Next thing I know the snag gets up and slides over 3' so I reel down and try to engage the fish but all it does is keep moving spots not yet realizing that I think I have control#-o I went down stream and got it's head turned out of the pool and when it got up in the shallows I finally got a good look at...

Just to give you a picture, this spillway is a pipe that feeds a canal and you can fish above where the water comes out so it is like being on a bridge with the current coming under you.
