Silver Lake or Newman?

Post by dougw » Thu May 20, 2010 5:23 pm

Anyone been on Silver Lake or Newman in the last day or so? Has the water started to clear up at all? Newman was pretty muddy last weekend. Maybe too much boat traffic....

Silver has been getting better. This terrible weather has really pulled a lot of the south weeds and kept it from settling down enough for the damn water to clear up. Its always blowing tho so thats not new. Newman won't get any clearer that it is right now tho, thats my experience with it. Just gets darker from here on. Big girl followed a lure on silver the other day that gave my knees a shake, boy she was big...

Silver is by nature just a much, much clearer lake than Newman. It's for that reason that I like Newman much, much more. I'm not happy unless the Nestle Quick Rabbit is on the shore drinking out of the lake with a huge straw. For the record visibility at Newman right now is about 2 feet give or take, but I was out there Sunday and all that wind Wednesday dirtied her up even more i'm sure. Getting excited just thinking about it.

Nik, I was there Sunday as well. I was the guy at the stern of the only canoe floating around there that afternoon. We left about 5pm or so. Saw one nice tiger by the submerged island. Couldn't get her to strike a hook though. She was probably over a 40 inch fish.

We're going to hit Silver tomorrow am. Hopefully we can get there relatively early.....

Newman was just stocked with muskies FYI. There were dozens of little guys in the pads this past weekend.

Late start off to Silver this morning. Hopefully I can get the kid to entice a tiger to give him a lookie lookie! I put some fresh fluorocarbon on the pole he will use, and will tie him on direct to see if that makes a difference. At least that way, if he loses one, it can be a 25 pounder!!!!!! Mind games, muskie fishing is all mind games with the kids!!!! That will keep him enthused about it!
