Chapter #57, of Muskies, Inc. is honored to be co-presenters of this esteemed event, along with Green River Steelhead Trout Club.
Part of our Mission Statement is to make sure we encourage young people to become involved with fishing;
Children who grow up involved with nature are the ones who fight to protect the environment.

"We're going to lose a big part of the conservation horsepower in this country as the baby boomers fade out of active fishing and the baton passes to the next generation, many of whom have never learned the joy of fishing and the need to fight for the resource," said Jim Martin, Oregon's former chief of fisheries and now the conservation director for Pure Fishing, a tackle company.

The pond is open 364 for kids 14 and under. The 1 other day is when they stock it for a seniors derby.

The weekend before on Sat April 25, OPENING DAY WEEKEND, there will also be a fishing derby at Mill Pond for special needs kids.



The kids sure do enjoy this event. Cody has fished the GRSTC event for 4 years straight.

looks like there is going to be a lot of people there. Hey KUP that is a great looking Flyer. This should be a great event. Both clubs are donating money for trout. I heard there is going to be a few 10+ lb trout stocked in there for this event

Get there a bit early if you want a good spot. It does get crowded fast.

use an egg weight then a snap swivel and attach a 2.5ft - 3ft leader. Use a small light hook on the leader and power bait. The youngster will hammer their limit (5) in less than an hour.

Not sure what differences will be involved this year but...

There has been rods available for them to use if they need one in the past, Im not sure what the policy is about keeping them. Most people seem to bring their own from what Ive seen.

Cody got his tackle box due to winning 3rd in his class. Tackle packets have been given out each year and other stuff the kids like.

One thing I like about this event is the community... even a single mom that has never fished can bring the little ones and get help from the experienced parents.

If you dont have plans yet, Bring the little ones down to the Green River Steelhead and Trout Clubs 50th Annual Kids Trout Derby. It tomorrow morning, starts about 8:00am.

Thanks for the map, RaMcVey; that will help. If you zoom in on the map, (like I did lol) the pond is just north of the tennis courts.
It is an honor to help with this one, especially since it is the 50th ANNUAL. Brett says he went to his when he was just a little kid; fond memories for many anglers in the South King County, I bet. Since it is difficult on their patience to take young ones tiger fishing; this fulfills our Mission Statement to get kids some experience with fishing. Coming face to face with Mr. Trout is a moment every kid remembers.
You don't need to bring food; there will be plenty there along with beverages. Just REMEMBER the camera!![thumbup]

Hot Dogs, get your hot dogs here. Hot dogs and sausages, Pop, Water, chips, cookies snack type stuff and dont forget Hot Choclate...

Its all up to the organizers. Menue changes slightly... then there is alwayse TROUT... I'll brink the kabob skewers.

Every now and then, a stray tennis ball will land in the middle of the pond and you can hear a dozzen kids make a comotion, really kinda funny!

Bring your camping chairs too, just in case the grass is wet.

Well, THAT was fun! Mother Nature sure dealt us all a great gift by not delivering on that "70% chance of rain" all day.
"It was a good day to fish!", said many of the youth that came up to talk to us!
We saw several stringers with the 5 fish limit, too, some of them NICE big healthy rainbows- must have been some of those that Green River Steelhead and Trout Club and the NW TIGER PAC stocked!
We made many new friends and met up with some of our members, too: Mike & Dan Fuller and family, Ken and Kenster, and of course the Green River Gang! And it looked like Lori and Zachery were having a great time!
We finally had a chance to award that $300.00 St. Croix and Cudaman custom lure out to the winner: Mr. Don Payne.
Special Thanks to Tammy & Russ, Buddy and Brett for helping out. Just THINK of the muskie karma.....

Don just happens to be a master rod builder himself, so the quality of these prizes was most appreciated. Congrats, Don!
We are very lucky to have the gifted expertise of Mr. Brett Olson, who makes these custom, hand sanded (not from a mold) for these special events. The painting and craftsmanship are equal to the most expensive and sought-after lures on the market. And we have all seen Brett's lures produce big muskies!
