RE:The Spawn
I was out fishing yesterday at a local lake. I saw some babies swimming, and saw the water explode with some fry, about a 5 ft round circle of them went crazy when they must of saw my boat coming. Water temp was 57 and these fish were easily a week old already. Sucks when they spawn and the lake is not even open yet LOL. Caught a 7-4 LM on a jig and went home early.

NO. I haven't seen any and I have been out at least 3+ times a week for the last 2 months. They may be in the east. On this side it's to cold still for LMB to spawn. Look up spawn for LMB on line and see what you find out.

I know what bass fry look like, and the way the boil on the surface was, I'm guessing it was a school of fry. The smaller school were about 3/4 of an inch long already. Bass spawn when they want to, water temp doesn't need to be a magic 60 degree's or anything like that.
Didn't you guys see Russ's Pig, it was bleeding all over his boat he said, that fish was gettin down.

RE:The Spawn
Could they have been baby perch? Don't perch spawn before bass? Chris did you get a good look at them?

RE:The Spawn
It really shouldn't matter if they are spawning yet or not. If they are spawning, you missed out the chance to catch them at their Fattest. Get out there now people before its too late.

RE:The Spawn
Not all bass spawn at the same time. There's always some early and late ones. They can spawn on earlier on the north and east shore lines and spawn later on the opposing shore lines. Keep an eye out, you never know.

RE:The Spawn
Heres a tip .. If you spend more time fishing for "pre spawning" Bass your odds are a little better at catching those pigs before they move up .. Not to mention the number of fish that you get also ..
Yeah 2-5 ft of water with one pig looking at ya on her bed is cool and all , but finding a "school" of 4-6lb bass sitting on a point out in 10-15ft is waaayyyy more exciting IMO .. food for thought

RE:The Spawn
They are on beds already on some of the shallow lakes. We fished a 150+ acre lake this weekend with an average depth of 9' and spotted plenty of fish on beds already with water temps at 56. Dez is on point though. Much more fun to back off and catch the big mamas out deeper. The first break outside the spawning flats are loaded right now as are the secondary points. Sweet Beavers and 6" Hudds have been doing well for me the past two weeks. Good luck.

RE:The Spawn
I'll be fishing, not sure which day or what time. Have something to do Sat. not sure what time Sat. I'll be doing that, but has to be done or wait another 6 months or so until Oct. or some time then.
Altho I'm usually off the lake by the time the waterski speed limit goes up at 11am.
