37 Days, 3 Degrees!

Post by raffensg64 » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:45 am

When Medical opened on March 1st, I got a surface water temp reading of 42. 37 days later, on April 7, it was a not-so-balmy 46. I know we've had a cool Spring so far, but fellas, it just doesn't add up! Well, I guess it does, to the tune of roughly one-tenth of a degree for every day since the opener. At this rate we'll have sustained hatches and hungry trout by mid-June! I'm just a couple trips away from becoming a "fair weather fisherman". Just kidding on the last point, of course!

Acually that is 4 degrees. Therefore it'll be warm by early June. Image

Just spent 3 hours down there today, getting only 1 fish and another lost. The surface water temp had dropped further, to 44. The wind was swirling like crazy and for the third trip in a row I saw snow!!! Man, if those poor fish are as cold as I was then it might be July before things get started!

Gonna be down to about 31 by morning here. So they said on the 6 pm news. I was going to go fishing early tpmorrow too. NOT! Can't be freezing my brass b--ls off. 51 on Sammamish today. I only went to run the boat to test the higher setting of the engine. Chine walk wasn't as bad, but too much torque steer so I lowered it back down.

With my arthritis and slowing metabolism, I just can't handle that cold anymore. I'll wait until the water gets into the mid 50's and the days are sunny and warmer. Keep them interested, Raff.[love] I'll be out there in May [thumbup]

OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!!!! I just got my first "double skunking" ever......and to think just 10 days ago, before the weather drastically cooled, I was having 15-20 fish days. I fished Amber from 10:00 to 1:00, hitting all my usual haunts with all the usual patterns. Surface water temp there only 45. Only one take, which snapped off, in 3 hours of fishing. Then headed to Medical, assured that I'd get my "sympathy fish"....NOT!!! Met my partner there at 2:00, just to find him fishless, and he'd been there since 10:30. We gave it everything we had until nearly 6:00. I got skunked again and my partner was saved by a 7" tiger. Water temp at Medical made it to 46 in the late afternoon....a heat wave! Hell, I may join Marc if this keeps up! Waiting til May could be a good thing. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.....and my feet don't do so well in water this time of year.

We'll hook up in May. In the mean time, tie up some flies[thumbup]
