smallies on the Columbia
Had a good day today on the Columbia with my dad. We fought the wind and the cold and caught these seven dragging tubes slowly on the bottom. Very aggressive strikes. Water temp is still at 49 degrees so I was suprised at how aggressive they were. I caught three he caught four. Lots of fun.
P.S How do I attach a picture? It says the attachment is too big to upload.
I guess I figured out a way. Not sure it's the cleanest though.

RE:smallies on the Columbia
nice catch- were you guys marking the fish on a finder or just picking areas to work the bottom?
RE:smallies on the Columbia
Do they have different regs for smallmouth on the Columbia?
RE:smallies on the Columbia
On the lower sections there is no minimum size and you can keep 3 over 15"
Nice fish by the way. Way to brave the wind and get'er done!

No, we weren't marking them on the depth finder. Just fishing 10-12 ft of water that was sloping up toward the bank. These fish are feeding now and are starting to move toward the beds. Using 1/4 oz jig heads to get to the bottom quickly. Have to be real patient and work the tube slowly.

Page 74 of the regs. Bass, not smallmouth or largemouth, it says 'bass'.kzoo wrote:Am I the only one seeing something wrong here?G-Man wrote:On the lower sections there is no minimum size and you can keep 3 over 15"

'from a true north and south line through buoy 10 to a projected line from Rocky Point on the Washington bank through Red Buoy 44 to the navigation light at Tongue Point on the Oregon bank.'
And on down for 4 more sections under 4 more 'paragraphs' where bass are mentioned. To 'The Dalls Dam to McNary Dam'.
I have NO IDEA where those buoys and places are other than the dams mentioned. Never heard of those other places.

I thought you could only keep three that was over 15". It looks like he's got seven fishing with his dad.Amx wrote:Page 74 of the regs. I guess it's not a big deal, I heard that place is loaded with bass.
RE:smallies on the Columbia
Ok, 2 people = 6 fish. 7 fish kept? I can't see the picture so I have no idea what size the fish are, if they are dead, if they kept them all. I didn't even know you could keep 3 over 15" down there. I usually practice catch and release anyway.kzoo wrote:I thought you could only keep three that was over 15". It looks like he's got seven fishing with his dad.Amx wrote:Page 74 of the regs. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Anyways, the place is loaded with bass, I just don't think it's wise to post the photo up.

The two in the middle and the the one on the right were right at 1.5 lbs. The others were a little over a pound. Only the three were a little over 15". I see why people put tape measures next to their fish now. I'll have to remember to do that next time!

RE:smallies on the Columbia
The limit is 5 bass with no more than 3 over 15". I trust that the fishermen put a tape to them and they aren't all over 15" long.
