You have to get a permit from WDFW to stock a private pond. It's not a big deal but for trout they require triploid to ensure you don't infect the natural trout. This is true even if your pond isn't directly connected to a public waterway. It's not out of the question that a bird can pick up a fish from your pond and drop it in a river or lake several miles away. Many counties have regulations about building a pond or an amateur dam.

You not only need a permit to stock fish you often need permits for building or improving ponds. There is only a handful of species you are allowed to stock. Ordering non permitted species online is a no-no. We have a list of certified growers that you may purchase from.
You can NOT remove fish from lakes and transport them to your pond!!
Call your local fis and wildlife office to speak to someone about the permit process.
